Then, I got this load friend, Ferronato, who lives half the year here, the other half in NYC. She came from the big apple a few days and he told me the other day that the CDs will disappear in 5 yrs, tops.

He believe that the Ipod and similar products will replace the current formats of music - like CDs, DVDs, ETCs.

"Jairie -, he said, in the future will have all the Rolling Stones discography in a tiny digital thing, the same size of a Zippo lighter".

And then, he also said, we'll send the sound to the soundboxes thru a wireless technology and, thats it, he said.

He keeps a small reecord store here, selling only ultra rare stuff and he said to me: Jairie, start to sell your CDs while people might be interested, because very soon your CDs will become trash in your house, just to glue dust and made you clean up all that shit.

What do you think about guys?
Course I won't sell my stuff, dammit, but...

Oh yes, and this guy is very smart. He made money, muuuuuuuuch money, about 20+ yrs ago, by building the first industry/company or whatever of VHS tapes down here in South America...

gypsymofo60 With all the advances in recorded music technology it is ridiculous that we are now listening to music at a far lower definition than evr before. The digital recording process removes us more and more from the instruments, voices and sound affects and studio acoustics. Analogue is still the closest thing to live music. I also have it on good authority that we are nearing the end as far as technicaly enhancing the music is concerned. ipods? What shit!

corgi37 The future of music is this...

...more Crazy Frog, more "idol", more shit they want you to buy linked to soapie stars and surgically enhanced plastic creations.

My case in point?

Anyone seen Hillary Duff lately? What on this wide, fucking Earth has she done to her face? Lipo? New teeth? Cheek fat sucking? She looks freaky! And believ me, i know. My daughter loves the bitch, and i have to watch Lizzy McGuire at least twice a day. Ms. Duff was very do-able (when she was 16) but who the hell sanctioned her surgery? Michael Jacksons plastic surgeon?

Its all fucked. I mean, the next thing you know, an indie darling like Jack White will do a Coke commercial.

Oh.....wait.
January 12th, 2006 07:01 AM
Jair You know, I was just about to buy a new Sony stereo - 900 watts RMS, and put the house down - and now I don't know if I really will.

The Ipod quality sound is great to me. If there's anyone complaining out there, something is wrong...

My dog, as I said once here, besides a dog is a Stones fan, ie, a 'nice person'. Every time I listen Back of my hands, for examaple, he yelp, or cry.

The same about Fancy Man Blues and, more recently, Dangerous Beauty. In some part of the song, there is a little solo (I dont know if I can really call that "solo") that makes him really yelp.

I'm a bit concerned with the possibility to hurt his hears, because, you know, dogs have a great audition, and he is really the most beautiful dog in the universe and also in the multiverse, if you has the skill to think in 3D.

That is it for now. Thanks for listen. I'd really apreciate some feedback about the dogs audition, from the guys out there who are musicians and undertand and know well about the tones and/or semitones of these Rolling Stones songs...

By the way, here is my dog, Nietzsche:

And here is ME ... -- well, you can see I'm wearin blue and pink - enjoying the summer and watching the girls passing by, showin those yummy six packs, legs, butts, tits...just driving me crazy every day...

AMEN little buddy

I am preaching this kind of statement for a while... but seems that actually people see me as weird or old-fashioned......

....fuckers.... how stupid, I mean..... I bet my young, tanned ass that these pricks have no idea that the a mp3 audio file has about the lousy mark of 10% of the original characteristics of the, non compressed format. And wait, I didn't even mention our beloved vinyls, just comparing mp3 with regular audio CDs

What about flac and shn?? Aren't they lossless unlike mp3's? I agree that mp3's sound like shit. I don't really like the sound on my ipod all that much, BUT the convenience of it outweighs all other complaints. I hate having stacks of cd's around and I never took good care of them anyway.

Now vinyl--that's a whole other story. Me luvs vinyl.
January 12th, 2006 12:20 PM
Blind Dog McGhee what happens when you lose your iPod after you threw away or sold you cds? what if it gets run over by a bus?
January 12th, 2006 12:31 PM
Candace Youngblood I didn't throw my cd's away. Just have them packed in boxes. Most of them, anyway. Some of them I gave to a friend to enjoy, but told her I may need them back some day.
January 12th, 2006 02:05 PM
Sir Stonesalot OK, if you put MP3 in your Ipod you are an idiot. Why? Because you would have to CHOOSE to do it. iTunes automatically converts the music you load onto your hard drive into the Ipod format(the name of which escapes me at this time). It is NOT MP3.

I think the Ipod format may still be lossy, but it is not nearly as bad as MP3. I plugged my iPod into my big house stereo...and it sounds great. It depends on what you are playing the iPod through. Crappy earbuds = crappy sound reproduction. And while the FM adapter is useful, especially in vehicles that have no cassette deck, it really degrades sound quality. I have found that the best sound quality from the iPod comes when you plug your dock directly into another powered source...like good computer speakers, or directly into your reciever. The dock comes with a line out port, and the difference in sound repo is striking. It is so good that I have a hard time telling the difference from the CDs. And you know what a picky audiophile I am.

I like the iPod just for the portability. I can carry 10,000 songs around with me in something the size of a cigarette pack. For someone like me, that is a godsend. I will never give up on vinyl or CDs though. I like the artifact aspect of them. I like liner notes and album art. I like going to the record store with a scribbled list. I have never downloaded a single song from iTunes. I don't need to. I have close to 12,000 CDs and CDRs. My problem is deciding if an album is iPod worthy.

This is funny. I can put my iPod on shuffle mode, and it will play for 3 1/2 weeks without repeating a song.

So what is so bad about that?

...ss, i'M NOT HAVING A DIG AT ANYBODY WHO EMBRACES TECHNOLOGY IN ANY RESPECT, besides you are one guy I do respect despite the odd disagreement I have always found you to be upfront & stonedwise. This is just a fact of sonics, no disrespect to any kid, or older people who get a buzz out of the advantages of ipod.
jjf. I appreciate your comments, but I aint little. Just a skinny runt Stones & old fashioned recording technique buff. All peace to ya son, cheers!

corgi37 Move with the times man. I had some stupid old coot tell me the other day that his Polaroid was better than my 7mp digital camera. He was serious, too! The dude who sold it to him told him. Silly old fucker.

I am so glad vinyl is gone. From my house, anyway. I hated them so much. I bought a cd player the day they came out at my local supplier. Havent looked back since.

Mind you, i aint into ipods either. I was gonna get a mp3 player in Honkers last year, but couldnt be bothered. And, i could be wrong here, but isnt there a hassle with ipods when the battery runs out?
January 13th, 2006 08:48 AM
gypsymofo60 Cameras vs Music = a whole different scene man. No offence.

Am I not with the times?

Couldn't give a rats rectum.
January 13th, 2006 01:48 PM
Sir Stonesalot Oh I hear ya GypMo. Trust me, if there was any way to strap a turntable on my back and play my vinyl whilst doing errands and chores...I'd be doing it!

I resisted the iPod for a long time. But then my parents bought me one for Xmas a couple of years ago. Even then I toyed with the idea of returning the thing. It sat in the box for almost 2 months before I broke down and got it out of the box.

Lo and behold the thing impressed me. And I was really skeptical. But just the thought of not having to stand in front of my wall of CDs trying to figure out what to take along....man that got me. Talk about a time saver! I don't HAVE to decide what I want to listen to before I listen to it anymore. Whatever I'm in the mood for...bam...it's right there. Instant gratification. Here's what it's like...it's like having your own radio station that will only play stuff that you like, AND you are the DJ 24/7.

On the con side.

The battery will only last about 3 years before it stops holding a charge. But Apple will give you a brand new replacement for $99.99. All you gotta do to reload it is hook it up to iTunes and your library zips right in there.

I also learned this the hard way. You need an external HD. The hard drive that all my music was stored on crashed. DEAD. So now I can't update my iPod until I get everything reloaded into iTunes. That sucks because it took me several months to load all those songs into iTunes. From now on I will back iTunes up on an external HD. Lesson learned.

But that's it. I pretty much dig everything else about it.

What can I say, I like gadgets and geegaws.

And it will probably make the trip to NYC.

corgi37 I LOVE James Bond. Well, Sean Connery as Bond. They are playing every Bond movie on cable here. Tonight, "Diamonds are forever".

The only good thing about vinyl was the covers and posters. And, i hated how when you jumped around playing air guitar, you'd fuck the needle or record by making it jump. Now, at age 42, i can jump around and nothing shakes.

Except the floorboards. I gotta lose weight!

I suppose VHS is superior to dvd as well!!

AAC

but if you upload a (downloaded) mp3 to itunes, it will stay mp3.

only when you upload a cd you can choose
from aac, mp3, wav, aiff or apple losless.
