In Bockris' biography of Keith, there's a statement by someone I can't remember (my memory fails me and the book is back home, while I'm still at the office, sorry) that Angie is more or less all about Anita and a way of Keith saying how bad he needed her. Maybe. Who knows. Lines like "they can't say we never tried". One of the great mysteries of the Stones universe
I always thought it was about Bianca. But it doesn't matter much as I don't like the song that much anyway. |

Angie is best in that Midnight Special or Don Kirschner thing where they performed it whilst Mick was wearing that straw hat. |

Yes.
Si
Tak.
He did, and boy did he eclipse them fast. Like a gerbil going thru a slippery toilet pipe. |

the new sandford book indicates that "angie" is about keef's daughter. however, keith's mother re-named her "angela" when she went to live with keith's mom in the mid-ish '70s.
i've got a little "theory" here......this entire "analyzing the music to death" thing which has been going on for a loooooooooooong time is :
-because there is a writer here digging for info
-there is a stone here who is driving us mad
-completely ridiculous
-all of the above. |

SS,
The reason Bowie wrote so many great riffs in that period was due to Mick Ronson his guitar player!Although never credited he gave Bowie that sound and it's his guitar that made the Spiders what they were.Ronson whom I must say is my Fav player of all time so yes i'd say Bowie's albums
Ziggy, Hunky Dory, Aladdin Sane, Man Who sold the world all rate as high as any Stones album.
But Hey, the Stones are my fav band and such artists should not be compared only admired for their efforts. |

LOL! Well said, SAL Obsession with the Stones is a dangerous malady...
After all, why go looking for a real-life Angie? A songwriter is entitled some latitude for imagination! Though of course this endless speculation is, in a sense, a tribute to the song's enduring effect and appeal. Well done, Mick and Keith!

If I was a drug-addled rock star in the 70s, I think I'd be somewhat confused about who I wrote some of my stuff about. It probably runs all together at some point. |

no that is just silly, glencar. MW is right....there is really no great NEED to interpret these wonderful songs, just enjoy them and let the mind take you where it will. in that regard, the stones are exactly like the great poets, etc. one can beat byron and shakespeare to death (but they're already dead!!), however i suggest that we/ the reader/listener savour the words/ sounds as the gifts they are. |

Alright I'll take the bait on this post...despite the fact that album sales, concert revenue, news coverage, and artistic output would all make the original statement somewhat silly....I personally am very disappointed in Bowie. I like a lot of his stuff but he's arrogant and doesn't relate well to his audience. He's had a few tours where he refused to play hits and was very vocal and rude about why - but then came back later with a "hits" tour when he realized he wasn't going anywhere and needed the money. He's had more than half an audience walk out of a live show when he was doing that Tin Machine crap.
