For some bizarre reason I've never been able to fathom, I've always liked the Bing Crosby/David Bowie duet of that song and "Peace on earth"

FPM C10 Has anyone mentioned "Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto" ?

Santa Claus, go straight to the ghetto.
Pitch up your reindeer. Uh!
Go straight to the ghetto.
Santa Claus, go straight to the ghetto.

And every stocking you buy,
The kids are gonna love you. So, Uh!

Leave a toy for Johnny.
Leave a dog for Mary.
Leave something pretty for Donnie.
And don't forget about Gary.

Santa Claus, go straight to the ghetto.
Santa Claus, go straight to the ghetto.
Tell him James Brown sent you. Ha!
Go straight to the ghetto.

You know that I know that you will see
Cause' that was once. Me.

Hit it! Hit it!
You see mothers and soul brothers.

Santa Claus, go straight to the ghetto.
Santa Claus, oh lord, go straight to the ghetto.
And every stockings you buy,
The kids are gonna love you.

So, pick up a stocking you find.
You'll know they need you.
So, I'm begging you Santa Claus,
Go straight to the ghetto.

If anyone wanna know,
Tell him James Brown told you.

So, Santa Claus, go straight to the ghetto.
Never thought I realized, I'll be singing a song
With one of you. My!
Santa Claus, go straight to the ghetto.

Don't leave nothing for me.
I have you. Can't you see?
Santa Claus, go straight to the ghetto.
Santa Claus, the soul brothers need you.

So, Santa Claus, tell him James Brown sent you...

My favorite part of THAT is watching it...Bing's entertaining at home with his pipe and sweater and HEY, who's at the door? It's our neighbor, Dave Bowie!

And that was during Bowie's heroes/Low period too, wasn't it? (Actually I just looked it up, and he performed "heroes" on the show!) I guess it would've been weirder for Ziggy Stardust to pop by and sing "We Three Kings" ...but not much.

Is it true that Bowie and Bing slept together?

Riffhard I always dug the Bing Bowie tune as well. I also have a soft spot for Bob Rivers-"Teddy the Red Nosed Senator". A very funny tune that pokes fun at the drunken stupidity of "The Swimmer!"

texile i forgot about bing and bowie -
i remember watching that when it came out...
and it was bizarre,
but its a classic.

guilty pleasure - that dan foghlberg song about meeting drinking in her car....

Gazza yes, Fleabit - it was September 1977, just around the time "Heroes" came out. Its hilarious viewing, especially the whole idea of Bowie just popping round to Bing's house for an impromptu sing-song.

Bing croaked it 3 weeks after they taped it. Maybe it was the shock of Bowie turning up on his doorstep that did him in.

Bowie wasnt a guy you wanted to hang around with that week. Two days before he did the Bing show, he appeared on Marc Bolan's TV show in England and did a duet with him as well. Bolan was killed in a car crash a week later!

Some really funny (or not) posting! Its the "ah-ruh-pu-pum-pum" bits that do it for me! From Berlin to Bing Crosby eh !!!!

Surround Sister Yop, Bing & David B is a good duo.
Otherwise Dag Vag, hazy reggae & Ebba Grön, crushing punk
was to be seen on Swedish telly back in 1982 singin "We wish you a merry hashmas"... That was good & (I can assure you) not a natural lyrics to sing that & then..
