Jumacfly As a guy from Cheese and Wine land,I like all the type of wine except White one.

If you like dry but fruity and tasty white wine, you can taste the Tariquet, a wine from the south which became in a few years a reference in France.

I prefer Red wine, especially the ones from Bourgogne (here we call the wines by region, not like "cepage" as it s the case in your country if I'm not wrong), very smooth but fruity and not as strong as the wines from my region(Faugeres,Corbieres)..
Some of them can reach 14 or 15 degrees , which is a great way to fall from your seat after 2 glasses.
We got a famous one called "Pic St Loup", delicious.
Cotes de provence, Bordeaux, not my fav but hey, the best Bordeaux are something exceptionnal.

I once drank Bordeaux Grand Cru St Julien of 1966 and I can tell you it was something magic!

Tell me what are your favs and let's share a drink to our dear Matt

Honky Tonk Man I like a bit of wine now and again. I went through a phase at the beginning of the year when I actually think I was drinking it more than beer. I’m not big on red wine, but I like Rose’ and I’m not going to pretend that I know what I’m talking about either. I don’t think I’ve ever drunk a bottle that’s cost more than about £5!

Riffhard I like good wine to be sure. I don't particularly indulge in wine as much as I do beer, but I do like good wine. I also have found that a good California wine is as good,or better, than any wine that France has to offer. I like a good Cab. Sway you gotta try J.Lohr. A very good winery in California. In fact their Cab is better than just about any French Cab going. Check it bro-www.jlohr.com/wines_vineyards_99_cab.html

Jumaccy,
thats impressive that it held up that well. I opend a 1975 Chateau Lynch Bages last year and was a little dissapointed. I still have one more 75 and a 78 that I'll get around to busting soon.

I'm big on the Bordeaux and Burgundies - I've got some Pichon Longueville, St Julien, Latour and Rothschild cellared. Recently picked a vertical flight of Cos d'Estournel from 1985 thru 1989.

For my everyday French wines I go with Rhones or some lower price Chateneuf du Papes. The Les Tourelles de Longueville from Pauillac I keep stocked up on because it goes down so easy.

Riffy,
I'm deep into the Cali Cabs. Extensive collection of the 1991's that I'm quickly rifling my way thru. Had the 91 Diamond Creek 2 weekends ago. Amazing! My favorite is Shafer. Named my pooch after the wine!

I've had the J Lohr Cab. Its ridiculously affordable! And easy to find. A great starter wine.

cheers!

luxury1 Vintage Tunina--a pinot grigio/chardonney blend (it has the ugliest, garrish label--be forewarned). You wont be disappointed in the taste, however.

Bloozehound I probably spend more on cigars than I do wine, but over the last few years I've really gotten into the local hill country wines, pretty dang good and very affordable

reds only, can't stand white wine

M.O.W.A.T. I like any Australian Shiraz ---> particularly from Greg Norman Estate (yes, the Shark)

Also like a good California Pinot Noir

For whites, when it is an exceptional year, Chateauneuf du Pape (yes they do make white, but only in exceptional years -- the last time I had one prior to this year was maybe back in '98)

other than this, I stick mainly to beer (this week's favourite quaff is Erdinger's Dark).

robpop I don't care much for wine. Bourbon is a differnt story.
25th October 2006 07:17 AM
egon I only drink rosé wine. THE drink for the summer.
Bit of ice in it & off you go!

I particulary like the wine from the "cinq litre" vinyard.

I like wine. My wife is in to it much more than I. If you are ever looking for a fantastic and extremely dynamic speaker for a corporate group, I would suggest Eddie Osterland. He was the first master Sommelier in America. An entertaining and very funny guy.

Egbert I got into wine at an early age. At 17, nothing beats a fifth of Mad Dog 20/20 and pack of smokes for just two bucks. After a while my tastes matured and I moved on to MD Kiwi - who knew something that looks like antifreeze could be so good! Enticing as it may be, I would stay away from MD Orange - it'll give you a hangover that'll make you wish you were never born.

Sir Stonesalot I drink a lot of wine..especially when I work daylight and am home in the evenings for dinner.

One of my faves is an Aussie Chiraz...Yellowtail. It's pretty cheap, and it's really good with food.

I don't usually drink wine if I'm drinkin' though. I stick with beer and whiskey.

tumbled Its PinotGrigio on Crushed Ice OR nothing for me.
thank you. you may continue......

bummed today
no winny contest

lotsajizz with wine I ALWAYS dine...my preference being generally Bordeaux, but I am open to all regions and all grapes--except for Zinfandels and California Chardonnays---two of the worst grapes on the planet....

and afterwards...a cognac or two (maybe three if it is a weekend) or a glass of Irish or two (Bushmills, Jamesons, Powers, Paddy, Tullamore Dew, etc.) and about three or four times a year I'll drink Bourbon--the finest Bourbons rank with the planet's best booze

26th October 2006 01:29 PM
Saint Sway Jizzy,

I'm definately with you on Chard's. But theres some nicely made Red Zins out there. Generally they tend to be hot giant alcohol bombs. But check out the zins from Ridge. Paul Draper is one of the most talented wine makers in Sonoma. his Monte Bello Cab/Zin blend is amazing - recent vintages start off around $120 and up. But he makes more affordable zins like his Lytton Springs label which run about $35

Dan I can't get into wine. Will drink it if its all that's available but would rather not. I have 2 bottles of KISS Wine my mom gave me as a joke. I guess if there is ever a day I run out of beer money I might be tempted to choke that swill down.
26th October 2006 02:09 PM
lotsajizz thanks for the tip Saint Sway! I'll give it one more day in court as they say....as for beer, I have only one or two a month at best...Sammy Smith's Winter Welcome should be out soon, I always get a case of that every season, but it lasts me a few months!!

VAN HALEN AND ROTH - FINALLY IN 2007:
No more teasing. Never tease where Van Halen is concerned...I have information from a highly placed source that Van Halen will likely tour in 2007 with David Lee Roth as frontman.

Negotiations are currently underway to re-unite Van Halen with their original frontman for a tour in 2007 that will take in Amercia and possibly other territories. While nothing in the world of Van Halen is set until the band walk out on stage, I can confirm that negotiations between all parties have been underway for some time, trying to put together a big 2007 re-union tour.

One would presume the tour will feature classic VH era songs only. What I do not yet know is whether this plan includes exiled bass player Michael Anthony. Perhaps Wolfgang will play bass? I'm told these questions will be answered shortly.
Van Halen last toured in 2004 with Sammy Hagar, but the tour ended on a sour note and Hagar has not talked to Eddie Van Halen since.
What I also know is that there will be no new Van Halen release to go with the tour, such as The Best Of Both World's in 2004. There is no plans for a new compilation or a new studio album - just the tour.
More details when available.

Saint Sway SG, any word if the reunion shows will include bluegrass songs or material from porn soundtracks?

Oh!

That Yellowtail Shiraz is MUCH better since they seriously decreased the ethylene glycol % by volume!
26th October 2006 03:09 PM
Sir Stonesalot I have no idea what you just said Roostah, but if it's good, then I'm that.
26th October 2006 03:11 PM
Saint Sway when theres so much good, readily available and affordable Australian shiraz... why would anyone drink Yellow Tail?
26th October 2006 03:24 PM
lotsajizz Yellow Tail is widely available and under $10 a bottle...hence it's popularity....stores on the East Coast do not have good stocks of Australian wine usually---conversely my trips to California reveal a pitiful and overpriced selection of French and Italian wines....btw, Chile's Cabarnets and Merlot/Cabarnet varietals are excellent--the only non-California grafted, pre-phyoxellera French origin grapes left on the planet
