Brian Jones pool tiles for sale

Brian Jones: He was found dead in 1969

Tiles from the swimming pool in which Rolling Stone Brian Jones died in 1969 have gone on sale.
The Brian Jones fan club is selling the tiles from the pool at his one-time country home in Hartfield, Sussex.

It's not as macabre as it sounds

David Reynolds
Each tile costs 115 and comes with a certificate of authenticity from the current owners of the house, who are upgrading the pool.

Proceeds from the sale will go towards a fund to erect a statue of Brian Jones in his home town of Cheltenham.

Since the sale began on the club's website 140 of the 320 blue ceramic tiles have been bought by collectors.

The fund has raised 3,300, about one-sixth of the cost of the statue.

"It's not as macabre as it sounds," said the fan club's David Reynolds.

Heyday: The Rolling Stones in the 1960s.

"It's just owning something that your hero owned and touched and chose."

Jones drowned at his country house, Cotchford Farm - a former home of Winnie the Pooh author AA Milne.

His death in the pool was connected at the time to his heavy use of drugs and alcohol.

Last year Anna Wohlin, who found the singer in the pool, claimed he had been murdered.

She said builder Frank Thorogood - who is now also dead - killed the guitarist in a row over money.

Thorogood was working for Jones at the farm at the time.

In 1994 police re-opened their inquiries into the guitarist's death when a recording of an alleged death-bed confession by Thorogood came to light.

The investigation did not progress.

Nasty Habits From nowhere through a caravan
Around the campfire light
A lovely woman in motion
With hair as dark as night
Her eyes were like that of a cat in the dark
That hypnotized me with love

She was a Gypsy Woman,
She was a Gypsy Woman

She danced around and round to a guitar melody
From the fire her face was all aglow
How she enchanted me
Oh, how I'd like to hold her near
And kiss and forever whisper in her ear

I love you, Gypsy Woman
I love you, Gypsy Woman

All through the caravan
She was dancing with all the men
Waiting for the rising sun
Everyone was having fun
I hate to see the lady go
Knowing she'll never know
That I love her, I love her

She was a Gypsy Woman
a Gypsy Woman, a Gypsy Woman, a Gypsy Woman

gypsy Awww...finally...the Birthday wish I had been waiting for so patiently for all day.

I didn't get my knob gobbled (but I'm sure Jason would love to...and I might just let him tonight)...and it's 12:01am here...so Birthday is officially over...It was just another day...except for all the wonderful things that everyone wrote here...thanks so much.

All I did was lay out, mow the backyard, and just kind of lounge around, got a lot of phone calls from friends and family, which was great.

Sir Stonesalot >I didn't get my knob gobbled<

Well, if you were my lady, that is how your day would have started. I would have cooked a nice meal for you too. And I would let you have the remote.

Then, late at night, we would have gone on a commando run, and stuffed a potato up Fat Bastard's exhaust pipe.

After that, the day would have ended just like it started.
