keithriffhard That song kicks ass! It has some nice driving guitar and passionate vocals during the chorus. It's an awesome song! I don't know why people knock this song. The verses are nice and sad....the way a Rolling Stones ballad should sound.
August 3rd, 2005 02:16 PM
jb Maybe because it's a cheesy, unispiring ballad, that makes GITDW look good.

I agree....many have a tough time accepting that a Rock Band can write great ballads.....many only think of the stuff released on such epic cd's as "Monster Ballads"

I prefer a stones rocker (ROugh Justice fits!) to a ballad, but i think it is a nice song...not sure how it will translate live though.
August 3rd, 2005 02:18 PM
gimmekeef Well glad you enjoy it..just goes to show personal tastes are so different...Its grown some on me..but still will likely skip it when I play cd....Think if it hadnt been released first the reception would have been less toxic...

Has anybody here seen my old friend Steelie?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
You know, I just looked around and he's gone.

Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
I just looked around and he's gone.

Anybody here seen my old friend Martin?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
I just looked 'round and he's gone.

Didn't you love the things that they stood for?
Didn't they try to find some good for you and me?
And we'll be free
Some day soon, and it's a-gonna be one day ...

Anybody here seen my old friend Bobby?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
I thought I saw him walk up over the hill,
With Steelie, Martin and John.

keithriffhard I know I have my own opinion and I think that was funny when you said it would be sad at Deroit Comerica Park or whatever, that was great. And yes, I do prefer Rough Justice over it I just don't see why it's supposedly that bad. I love to listen to it, but that's my tastes. I'm that guy who liked "Winter", "You got the silver", "Memory Motel" and "Till the next goodbye" respectively, and not being gay. But those songs are awesome and so is this one! I love it

The Wick I could have written better lyrics than this. And just to prove my point, how about this for a start (unless your name is Mick Jagger, don't take this personally, it's just a bit of fun):

You're awful shit
You're awful shite
I must admit, you gave me shock.

The awful truth is really sad
I must admit, this is really bad.

While people laughed and took the piss
we dropped our heads, and we hid in shame
mmm, the shit is lit, Jimmy's gone
If he'd heard this song, he would have been done

ah ah ah ah
walk the streets of love
and they're full of shit
ah ah ah ah
walked the streets of love
and they're full of shite

voodoopug The sage said, "The best thing is not to hate anyone, only to love. That is the only way out of it. As soon as you have forgiven those whom you hate, you have gotten rid of them. Then you have no reason to hate them; you just forget.

That was much better than any Stones release in decades.

Sadly, there can be no C10 reunion, as Steelie (aka Baby Steelie) is now a member of the Unification Church!

He's a Moonie!

Streets of love a good ballad? In that case how would you define REAL good ballads (Lady Jane, Memory Motel, Winter, Moonlight Mile)?

Yes , sadly , without our Baby Steelie the C10 has been reduced to THIS ! :

Shiver .................................

************* JOEY NOW GIVES EULOGY *******************

My Baby Steelie need not be idolized ;
Or enlarged at ' Shidobee ' beyond what he was at ' Rocks Off ' .
He IS to be remembered as a kind and decent man ;
A man who saw wrong and tried to right it ...
Saw suffering and tried to heal it ...
Saw War and tried to STOP it .

And those of us who loved him ** Young Joey's voice now cracking with visceral and heartfelt emotion *** ;
And who take him to his ' transition ' here today .
Know that what he was and what he stood for ;
Will someday come to pass for all the world .
As he said many times in many posts throughout the decades ;
" Some Men see message boards the way they are and say , ' Why ?!?! ' ..... ' WHY ?!?! ' .........
I dream of message boards that never were and say , ' WTF ?!?! ' !!!!!!!! "

I Thank You For Your time Today !

Scazz!

I need not compare it to other songs, that's stupid. That's the same as waiting for The next Exile. It's a ballad, and it's good, for a ballad. I like the fuzzy guitars. What the fuck?
Lady Jane is an awesome song...
Tears Go By is stellar.
Memory motel is fun, sometimes.
Moonlight mile is a great song for late at night in a car on the road.
Winter is a good song for the fall or winter right before the sun goes down.
Do you think your capable of commenting on songs without comparing them to other songs?
Seriously what the fuck! If you SOL, I understand why... It's a cheese dick ballad... I can listen to cheese dick ballads... It's not as painful as 20 plus posts with absolutley no relevance to a topic and full of pictures and quotes.
