I might have to think about this a little bit more. But when I was a kid, I fell in love with the harmonica sound after I heard Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man. |

Did Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass ever cover a Beatles song? |

Hmm good question, I don't know.
MR and SW jump to mind but I'm sure they'll be others the longer I think about it.
Surely. |

jb -- a quick perusal of my stacks reveals that there is a version of "With a Little Help from My Friends" on Herb Alpert's Ninth.
Does his version of A Taste of Honey Count?
Nasty!

I happen to like Sergio, Herb and the Baja Marimba Band....they obviously all have good taste.
Any of you folks ever hear the rehearsal of Dylan/Dead doin' the Stones' I'm Free from the '87 sessions? Pretty cool. |

Back to the original question - favorite Stones harp songs - I'm going to go a different route and go with "Gimme Shelter". Mick plays exactly ONE lick in it, but it's the absolute BEST lick in the history of recorded music.
He managed to cram the entire end of the world into one bent blue note.
I have a buddy who compiles absolutely AWFUL versions of TERRIBLE artists WRECKING Beatles songs. He's got HOURS of them. Wanna tree 'em? |

Good call on GS - I've often wondered why Mick doesn't pick up a harp on blow on this one live...couldn't hurt. |

When does that note come in? Durring what time of the song?
I sent our Finnish Bastard Marko a copy of The Corn Dog Man.
It's gonna throw a rod his way he'd never expect!
