Mother baby
I might have to think about this a little bit more. But when I was a kid, I fell in love with the harmonica sound after I heard Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man.

jb Did Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass ever cover a Beatles song?
04-15-03 03:53 PM
steel driving hammer Hmm good question, I don't know.

MR and SW jump to mind but I'm sure they'll be others the longer I think about it.

Surely.
04-15-03 03:57 PM
Nasty Habits jb -- a quick perusal of my stacks reveals that there is a version of "With a Little Help from My Friends" on Herb Alpert's Ninth.

Does his version of A Taste of Honey Count?

Nasty!

04-15-03 04:10 PM
gypsy gotta go with "Sweet Virginia"
04-15-03 04:13 PM
jb Thank you Nasty Habits....I also believe Sergio Mendez covered "Fool on the Hill".

Nasty Habits Ah, yes, the famous unreleased Baja Marimba Band Bongo the Beatles bootleg.

04-15-03 04:31 PM
T&A Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 also covered the Beatles' Daytripper....
04-15-03 04:35 PM
jb Nice call T&A!!! Now do you understand why I hate the Beatles?
04-15-03 04:35 PM
Nasty Habits Hendrix covered Day Tripper, too, jb. What do you do about that?
04-15-03 04:40 PM
T&A I happen to like Sergio, Herb and the Baja Marimba Band....they obviously all have good taste.

Any of you folks ever hear the rehearsal of Dylan/Dead doin' the Stones' I'm Free from the '87 sessions? Pretty cool.

FPM C10 Back to the original question - favorite Stones harp songs - I'm going to go a different route and go with "Gimme Shelter". Mick plays exactly ONE lick in it, but it's the absolute BEST lick in the history of recorded music.

He managed to cram the entire end of the world into one bent blue note.

I have a buddy who compiles absolutely AWFUL versions of TERRIBLE artists WRECKING Beatles songs. He's got HOURS of them. Wanna tree 'em?

T&A FPM

Good call on GS - I've often wondered why Mick doesn't pick up a harp on blow on this one live...couldn't hurt.

When does that note come in? Durring what time of the song?

I sent our Finnish Bastard Marko a copy of The Corn Dog Man.

It's gonna throw a rod his way he'd never expect!

It's gonna blow his mind! LOL.
