jb Look, since 1989's Steel Wheels, we always experienced the pre-release hype that this album was their best since _____(fill in the blank). Maybe that's why I get so disappointed. While I am no fan of Dylan or some other older artists, fans of theirs have been blessed with some very good late career releases. I understand there will never be another "Exile" , but is it unreasonable to expect at least one album since Dirty Work, to have the real sound, style, and guitars, that were so common on much of their earlier work? I get bored listening to songs that sound more or less the same, some seemingly armed with "outrageous" lyrics to make up for their lack of real punch...they are more or less interchangeable, and none really stands out. I think that is why some of us tend to look so fondly on another average album, VL, because at least it was an attempt to try and make a Stonesy sounding, yet modern album. For me, ABB songs, like RJ, ONNYA, are filler, and I didn't get much out of them after the first few listens....Some of the other stuff is plain bad, and about the only song which was enjoyable in concert was BOMH. Somewhere Mick and Keith just stopped caring, and the tour was an excuse for an album, and not the other way around.

That singer looks like he's constipated but he needs to go in a hurry. It's a shame because the music is certainly adequate.
