Topic: It's Friday Night..... Return to archive Page: 1 2
02-20-04 07:50 PM
Maxlugar Opening Remarks:
Hello from beautiful Oyster Bay, New York. Tonight, the air is crisp and glittering with bright, tinselly Stones music. We like it like that. I like Stones. I play them often. Loudly. Hug me.

Core Values:
a. I will continue to play Stones every time I get the chance. When turning on my Hi-FI, I will always seek out the Stones CDs first.
b. I will play Stones loud, and typically, drunk or buzzed.
c. I will continue to don a while lab coat, safety goggles and protective gloves and jot down important scientific data about Stones songs on my trusty clipboard.
d. My love of Stones will continue to make me superior to others.

Celebrate Stones:
Friends, it is now time to rock. I sit here typing to you, dear reader, from the Subterranean Tavern at Casa de Maxy. Like most Friday nights, I have been sitting here, drinking, stewing in my Stonesian smugness while the alcohol takes effect and fingers want to type. It is not always enough to fill my tank up with Stones alone. Sometimes, we must share our feelings with others while rocking. I will do that. I am caring. Its been a long time. I want to do the Harlem Shuffle with you mentally. Shake your stem cells, baby!

My Stonesian kin! Come with me! Come with me on a post of wonder!

- Isnt it wonderful we live in a world where recordings exist of Bill Wyman during the 1981 tour?

- Isnt it wonderful a man named Mick Taylor once joined the Stones and stood statue-like on stage but let his fingers fly along the frett board like a moth with road rage fluttering around a porch light at night? Delicious.

- I sit with wonder listening to the HBO show thinking how can Mick still sound so good. Isnt he wonderful?

- Isnt it wonderful that, should the Stones decide to, they could still hit the stage with the same line-up they had in 1972 because Bill The Little Hands That Could Wyman and Mick Taylor are still alive?

- Isnt Ronnie Woods solo during Wild Horses in 75 the best thing he has ever done in his life? Ever wonder why he doesnt do that anymore?

Tonight I will do more Stones than Ive ever done before. I will take it to the limit. The bar is stocked and only approximately six steps from my Lotus Couch. The petals are down and glowing. My confetti-spewing dragon is in the shop but my Life Sized Billy Preston Action Figure with optional (but not detachable) Butt Hole Bottle Opener, is at the ready. Billys gonna need a new sphincter when Im done with Stones tonight!

Stones!

Mrs. Maxy A. Lugar is putting the cute little Maxlette to bed. Soon the volume of my Stones will increase. Its a long way from my crib to hers. Thats one dirty fucker of a bag of lullabies. Will she dream of Stones? Probably.

Oh dear friends, Im flying! I feel like a white, drunken Stonesian Maya Angelou.

I love when Mick says strictly a dream come true, during Just My Imagination. I also love it when he says she doesnt fucking know me!. Sometimes you get both in the same version. Sweet!

The genius of Hal Ashbys Lets Spend the Night Together can not be overstated. Sure he cut up some songs and what not. But for God sakes! Those shots! A fucking Stonesian Ansel Adams, was he!

Drinking red wine a lot. I took a cholesterol test a few months ago. When the results came back with a thank you note from the American Diary Association, I took decisive action. Im drinking more.

Question: I want to hate Kid Rock but his heart seems in the right place. Hes not particularly talented but is big on paying homage to the greats and not so greats. What should I make of him? Help me.

Question: Who was playing Asteriods during Ronnies solo on Start Me Up on the HBO show?

End Notes:
Just as Mr. Mooney was Larry Tate
And Mr. Spacely was Sam Slate.
So are things so often derivative.

But a young man with unequaled blood alcohol levels and questionable sexuality once told me Stones is Stones.

I couldnt agree more.

Enjoy your Friday Night.

Sit, Sip and Salivate.

To Stones.

I love you.

M. Diddy!

Joey again?

Maxmeister Maxy......

It's great to know the Billy Preston life size action figure is still fully operational after all these years. No wonder it comes with a lifetime warranty under any use or abuse. Very impressive.

I raise my ice cold green bottle with the red star toward your Beck's, vodka and Snapple, vino or whatever is your pleasure this evening. One day we'll have to do it again at YOTI in NYC.

BTW, I expect to see you in the stands at Yankee Stadium in about 8 months. While at the same time the Red Sux and their fans will wondering aimlessly in the streets of Bean town mumbling 1918 wasn't THAT long ago and wait til next year.

Respect the music, the rest is easy!!

Rick

Sir Stonesalot Maxy....I must come visit. I just MUST.

>The genius of Hal Ashbys Lets Spend the Night Together can not be overstated. Sure he cut up some songs and what not. But for God sakes! Those shots! A fucking Stonesian Ansel Adams, was he!<

I must assume that you were quite drunk when you wrote this. The only good thing about LSTNT is that the Stones are in it, and manage to rise above the shitty director. The genius was not in Hal Ashby....the genius was in the Rolling Stones.

>Question: I want to hate Kid Rock but his heart seems in the right place. Hes not particularly talented but is big on paying homage to the greats and not so greats. What should I make of him? Help me.<

He's a snore, a bore, and a complete posuer. Not fit to hold Keef's soiled undergarments. I do not hate Kid Rock, yet to me he is nothing. The boy was just lucky to get outta the trailer park.

I'd forgotten how much I looked forward to your Friday Night musings Maxy. And now that I've had another taste, it would be a shame to make me go through withdrawl again.

C motherfuckin' 10!

Nasty Habits White Maxa Angelou --

I have always been fond of the Kid Rock album Devil Without a Cause. It rocks and cocks in an obnoxious, License to Ill/Slim Shady/Van Halen kind-of-a-way, and although I sincerely doubt you want to REGULARLY turn the Maxarium into a strip club, on occasion it is probably not a bad thing to do. If there's gotta be rock/rap, let it be loud and stoooooooooooooooooopid like der KID rather than Bug Stank like Limp Dicksquit or Unca Kanker. The man uses midgets and porn stars, often on the same stage, which I know would appeal to your vice-ridden heart as well as your non-stop sense of fun.

Currently under the ills -- the amount of mucus I have ejected from my nasal orfici in the last week has been staggering not to say disturbing. Was blasted on acetimenophin, red wine, and gauge last night and did not spend it in Stonesian splendor, oh no, I am shamed to admit -- but I did watch my new DVD of Masked and Anonymous for the fourth time since its release this week.

The man shut that movie down, Maxy. It was too strong, too brave, too black, and too real for them to handle, so they strongarmed the film critics of America to put the pan in the hand and let me in sweetie to this fair land.

But Nasty knows the truth and he sees it every time that old wheezenhimer sings "I'll Remember You" and then later rocks into a jackhammer version of "Drifter's Escape".

Shivers and shakes, and only partially because of fever dreams.

Sorry I wasn't rockin' with ya on Friday, but you know I is always rockin' wit ya.

JETSUUUUUUUUUN!!!

I think that Joey is Sleazy Hugh and the whole thing is sick.

Ashamed of Bob???????

02-21-04 11:57 AM
Nasty Habits Ashamed of Bob?

Hell no!!

But one replies to Friday night posts in the same dramaturgical style in which they is presented which means one must subscribe to the lit'rarry convention that the Stones is the center of the universe and all that stuff up there in the thesis statement portion of Max Kampf up there.

Damn I'm sorry you editted that.

Bob's Reputation?
Well....Billy The Kid...The Best That's Ever Been. Kind of hard to maintain a reputation like that....unless of course it's true....then it's easy, comes with the territory. But I guess I have to see the new movie.

Nasty Habits You edited first!

But here it was!

1000000 Motels Wrote:
The original 10000000000 Motels post went something like "Tell Me More! Does Dylan manage to keep his reputation intact?"

to which I nastily responded

Reputation as what?

An utterly obfuscating weirdo who does stuff on occasion that completely baffles the public like making weird movies about the artifice of movie making and the inherent alienation of public persona from true personality?

Oh, fuck yeah, it does!

Here's the deal:

It's a damn sight easier to watch than Renaldo and Clara or Eat the Document. It fact, I find it flies by, is reasonably comprehensible especially after you've seen it a few times and that a lot of it is quite funny and is in fact supposed to be.

The music is not as good as Renaldo and Clara but it comes pretty damn close, sounds better, and the way the band and Bob look together in one frame is a glory to behold. The versions of "Diamond Joe", "Cold Irons Bound", and "I'll Remember You" in particular are worth watching over and over again.

Bob Dylan is not an actor and whilst working with professional actors you really notice that Bob Dylan is not an actor. But he does stand around looking cool very well, which is what he has to do in the movie for the most part. He can also voice over like a mofo and it's generally in the voice overs where his acting is the best. And when he does deliver a line it's generally a pretty cool line.

That said, his scenes with Angela Bassett are just kind of bad.

It's like a Bob Dylan song. It kinda makes sense, and it kinda means anything that you want it to mean. It's not typical of anything happening in the rest of its chosen media, and it doesn't really seem to give a shit what you think about it. But the lines sound really cool and there's always something going on to either enjoy or think about.
