Topic: who's more pathetic: van halen or guns&roses Return to archive Page: 1 2

Lethargy It's a tough call...

Van Halen: With these douchebags, you have three lead singers, multiple quits/rejoins among those three, a 14 year old replacement member, the endless brainless antics of DLR, the toothless wonder EVH, etc. An apparent easy winner.

Guns And Roses: Then again, with these ass clowns, you have ZERO original instrument-playing musicians, an album 13 years in the making and still not out (which will most likely still suck), a delusional diva-like lead singer who holds up concerts until his dinner is prepared just right, a fat/sweaty lead singer who's last tour is cancelled after a handful of nights, etc.

I just can't decide who's more pathetic. Discuss...

Saint Sway dude its VH in a slam dunk

they've taken Spinal Tap to a whole new extreme (yes extreme! In fact they even hired the singer from Extreme!)

GNR may of become a joke to many. But they've got a long way to go to be in VH territory. Last I checked, they still hadnt made a porno soundtrack and Axl hasnt been spotted singing bluegrass songs on late night television. Plus all teeth and tongues are present and accounted for and, while I dont know the age of the guy hiding under the KFC bucket, I'm guessing he's old enough to drive.

Eddie? Or Homeless?
22nd February 2007 01:05 PM
jb I used to think
I had the answers to everything
But now I know
That life doesn't always
Go my way, yeah
Feels like I'm caught in the middle
That's when I realize

I'm not a girl
Not yet a woman
All I need is time
A moment that is mine
While I'm in between

I'm not a girl
There is no need to protect me
It's time that I
Learn to face up to this on my own
I've seen so much more than you know now
So tell me to shut my eyes

I'm not a girl
Not yet a woman
All I need is time
A moment that is mine
While I'm in between

I'm not a girl
But if you look at me closely
You will see it my eyes
This girl will always find
Her way

(I'm not a girl)
I'm not a girl, don't tell me what to believe
(Not yet a woman_
I'm just tryin to find the woman in me, yeah
All I need is time (All I need is time)

Some Guy The 2004 Van Halen summer tour grossed almost $55 million, and Pollstar listed Van Halen in the top 10 grossing tours of 2004. Most of the concerts received positive feedback from professional reviewers. However, serious problems surfaced. Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony would subsequently admit that Eddie Van Halen had problems with alcohol during the tour that affected everyone involved. Hagar stated that he was "done with Van Halen" and wished that everyone would have "taken it more seriously." It was also revealed in Rolling Stone magazine that promoters had lost money on the tour. Many fans complained that tickets were overpriced (sometimes exceeding $200), and only some shows were actually sold out. Reports of Eddie being drunk and playing poorly also circulated, particularly later in the tour, while reports from the first half of the tour were largely positive. The most widely reported alcohol-related performance issue occurred during the band's first night in Chicago at the United Center when Eddie, staggering about, repeatedly tripped on his guitar cable, causing his guitar to become unplugged eighteen times. As a result, towards the middle of the set, Hagar asked Eddie's guitar tech to come onstage and follow Ed around to keep re-plugging the guitar. Also notable was Eddie stopping in the middle of his Eruption solo, laying down on stage and telling the audience in a slurred voice, "I'm sorry folks, I done run outta gas." He lay there for several seconds before standing back up and continuing. At the end of the bands final show of the tour, in Tucson, Eddie smashed one of his guitars on stage and quickly walked off stage.

It is far below anything Michael Cohl would produce. He could generate at least $154 million by promoting this tour, and that would be a mild success.

February 22, 2007

Earlier this week, multiple sources were reporting that the Van Halen reunion tour with David Lee Roth had been "postponed indefinitely." Now Rolling Stone says that it's official: the tour will not be happening at all. The magazine cites a memo informing Live Nation employees simply that "the Van Halen tour has been shut down." Some other reports have said there may have been "contractual issues" surrounding the tour and a deal with Live Nation never fully materialized.

Also, a new Van Halen best-of disc highlighting the Roth years was set to be released by Rhino Records this fall, to capitalize on the tour and the band's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Now Blabbermouth reports that the compilation has also been "indefinitely postponed."

The next issue of Rolling Stone is slated to have a feature on the band, and excerpts have already appeared on RollingStone.com from a new interview with Roth, along with the first group shot of the new lineup

Some Guy Former VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony's official web site has been updated with the following message:

"There's a new addition to the Mad Anthony family of hot sauces coming soon for those of you who just can't get enough heat. You wanted hotter taste with the same great flavor and Mad Anthony's has heard the call! Mad Anthony's XXXTra Hot Private Reserve is in the final stages of preparation and is just what you need to turn your favorite meal into a five-alarm inferno. So ice up those ass cheeks and get ready to sizzle, because Mad Anthony's XXXTra Hot Private Reserve is on its way! Don't forget to have the Fire Dept. on speed dial!"

although...putting her in the same category as robert johnson, jimi and brian doesn't do them justice.

Look, there isnt even a point in arguing this thread. People see Van Halen as more of a joke than GnR.

At least GnR have some form of credible band out there on the circuit. I agree that calling themselves GnR is a bit of a piss take, but what the hell, it gets the tickets sold!
And guess what? People are actually liking what they hear at these gigs! So who is the fool?

Appetite was the first album I bought, and I still fucking love it. The time was right for a band like GnR to come along when they did and blow bands like Van Halen clean out of the water.

Thats precisely what they did. GnR made people realise that the RnR they were getting was too "spandex clad". They bought it back down and made it worth listening to again.

Fuck Van Halen. Its way past the 14 year old's bedtime anyway!
