Yep -- Howe Caverns!!

Only about 10 miles from where I "grew up"

Nothing like goin' down the elevator shaft into the big ol' hole!! And you don't even have to use the rear entrance!!

February 4th, 2005 10:12 AM
Fiji Joe Where is that?...That's not in Detroit is it?
February 4th, 2005 02:47 PM
LadyJane WHAT!!!! LMFAO.

OMG...this is TOO good to be true!!!

Nanky...any photos laying around the old homestead of YOU visiting HOWE caverns???? Where is gypsy??? This will MAKE her day!!!

www.howecaverns.com.

I forsee a group shot of RO regulars sprawled on the Howe lawn.

A weekend road trip is in my future...who's with me????

LJ.

Fiji Joe Well to hell with that...I ain't going to Detroit
February 4th, 2005 02:55 PM
nankerphelge No pix, but it was about the only place in the area to go on field trips as a kid.

Although we often went to the Catskill Game Farm too!!

I liked the sheep!!
February 4th, 2005 03:07 PM
LadyJane Howe caverns and a Sheep farm.... U-Huh...this explains soooo much.

It's all so clear now!

Is it cocktail time yet????

LJ.

February 4th, 2005 03:38 PM
Dan There is also the Palace Of Filth in Burbank but I don't think I could accomodate more than 3 people.
February 4th, 2005 03:43 PM
Maxlugar I've gone to Howe Caverns a few times as a kid.

Awesome place.

Basically, some farmer kept lossing his cows in the winter and would always find them huddled around this hole way inback of his farm.

He was all like "What's dem cows always hangin' 'round dat hole fer?"

You see folks, there was HEAT coming from that hole! Cows aint dumb! Cows aint no school boy's but they know what they like, and that's warmth.

Someone went down there eventually and it was a cavernous cavern-like cavern structure with stalagmites and staligtites and bats 'n' stuff. You take a boat at one point and pray to your lord almighty they don't get stuck in your hair.

I second Nanky's motion to have a RO gatherin' at Howe Caverns.

We can go deep in the hole together.

M!

Starbuck Howe's your history?

here are a look at some famous Howes through the ages. How many of them can you get? the average "culturally literate" person should know who most if not all of these people are.

Wow! Just look at those kids frolicking on the lawn of Howe Caverns! We HAVE to go...we just HAVE to! Do you think Jesse James and his outlaw buddies ever hid out in the caverns of Howe?! Will someone hold me while we go down the shaft? It sounds kinda scary. I'll be fine once we're down the shaft and at the base.
nanky, you are the KING of Howard Carter-like finds! Hell, you're better than Howard Carter...we should just start replying, "What a nanky-like find."

That's the awesome Gordie Howe. Here's a pic of him playing hockey at 69 in 1997!

20 years earlier he was the only guy to play on the same NHL team as two of own sons on the Hartford Whalers. He was 53 then!

nankerphelge Maxy's right -- old farmer Howe's cows loved that warm moist heat coming from that lil' hole!!

And who doesn't really!

And knowing the fine people of "Scary" County ("Schoharie" actually -- from the Indian Yo-Scho-Haro which means "land where God gives Earth enema"), they would love a bunch of ROers to show up and go Down in the Hole as one big Stonesian family!

And please, do NOT mistake Howe Caverns from Secret Caverns, a nearby cave with an "underground waterfall" (which my sources deep, DEEP in the spelunking trade tell me is a fake).

February 5th, 2005 10:25 AM
Maxlugar Don't forget about Steve Howe, relief pitcher for the Yankees among many others.

Steve Howe was suspended nine times for testing positive for Cocaine.

Man, that's gotta count for something, no?

See you all at Howe Caverns this summer!

Great idea Nanks.
February 5th, 2005 10:39 AM
Nellcote Hey Maxy!
Howe could you forget Steve Howe plays guitar for YES!
"Martins come out of the sky, they stand there..."
February 5th, 2005 03:51 PM
iluvmickjagger07 do all of you main RO members know each other in person?
February 5th, 2005 03:51 PM
Maxlugar That's right. There are two Steve Howe's.

Forgot about the Yes Steve Howe.

Trevor Rabin actually made a lot of people forget Steve Howe.

not sure what you mean by "main" but, in many cases, yes.

Quite a few of us met on the last tour at various points, most notably at the organised get togethers in New York, Denver and London. Several more have hooked up when in each other's towns (whether for concerts, business, vactions etc) before and after that.

LMAO...what a question!!!!!!

Believe it or not, most of us have NEVER met, but it doesn't matter. We spend a lot of time here and you really get to know people. We have a lot in common and we share a demented sense of humor.

Some of us e-mail and talk on the phone..which is really fun. But the BEST is when you meet a fellow RO'er. Instant bonding. Feels like you're talking to a long lost friend. It's quite special.

Bring on the Tour......dammit!!!!!!

LJ.

Sir Stonesalot >Howe could you forget Steve Howe plays guitar for YES!<

You know, lots of us WANT to forget about that sorry shit stain. Gee, thanks for reminding us. Now we have to reforget him.

Done.

for what its worth, you're as "main" a RO member as anyone else here.

No elitism as far as I'm concerned, nor anyone else I hope. You're as welcome to hook up with the rest of us in person on the next tour as everyone is.
February 5th, 2005 08:38 PM
Sir Stonesalot Great spot for a gathering.
You know I'm up for it.
Please let me know when this might happen.
See, I gotta put in for vacation time.
You know how that can be a pain.

Really need a big blow out with you people.
I had such a great time at YOTI.
Don't know if I've had a good time since.
Everyone here needs this, I think.

Many great times to be had in the future...
Everyone is welcome, like Gazza said.

How many of us have met in the past?
Anyone ever have a bad time?
Right on the button every time for me.
Don't be afraid, there is safety in numbers.
February 5th, 2005 09:24 PM
Sir Stonesalot You are welcome my baby.

Did you get a chance to check out the picture disc?

Let me know what you think...I value your opinion.
February 5th, 2005 09:27 PM
LadyJane I hit delete by accident, dammit.

Oh well...it was really a reply JUST for YOU!!!

Picture disc was REALLY cool!!

LJ.
February 5th, 2005 09:43 PM
Sir Stonesalot I know you probably don't know who any of those people are, but a photo is a photo...are they any good?

I'm thinking of publishing a photo book sometime. Are they THAT good? You will not hurt my feelings one way or the other...I need an objective opinion.
February 5th, 2005 10:00 PM
LadyJane Actually I did know many of the bands. You and Hubby have VERY similar musical tastes. You took those??? They are great!! I'm not kidding. They look pretty damn professional to me. Really. I'd tell ya. Promise.

Go Eagles!!!!

When this gathering takes place, it is going to rock!
Howe caverns? Chicago? It doesn't matter where really.
Everyone had better show up!
No backing out, okay?!
February 6th, 2005 07:40 AM
Sir Stonesalot All things considered,
Spring would probably be best.

Spring has decent weather, and
outdoor activities need good weather!
Obviously we need time to plan this out.
Never try to wing one of these gatherings.

Also, spring is a time of renewal,
so someone pick some dates.

Where is this gonna happen? Chicago, I say.
Everyone can get to Chicago easily.

Chicago has lots of hotels, good restaurants,
and lots of cheap flights.
Never had a problem getting to Chicago.
February 6th, 2005 08:58 AM
Bitch Isn't Howe Caverns in NY State? Someone posted Detroit, another Chicago. WHERE is it actually located???

I was hoping for an East Coast get together, like Phila. or NYC.

Multiples would be nice. A good Rocks Off party could be explosive. I'm in. Where ever, when ever, post it.
February 6th, 2005 12:14 PM
Riffhard Just put the date together.
Until that time we're just spinnning our wheels.
So let's have it! When? Where?
Time to get this show on the road!

Frankly, any date is good for me. Summer would best though.
Ultimatly I'd like to shoot for June or July.
Can we come to some agreement on a date?
Kinda like planning for a tour.

Hectic as hell, but it can be done!
Everyone who wants to attend should post their intentions.
Ready? Ok then! I'm in! Who else?

Alrighty then! Your turn.
Let's have a look at you! Who's in?
Riffy makes one. And yous?
Everybody seems to be ready! Are you ready?
Anyone else? Nanky? Maxy? SS? Gazza? Lady Jane? Gerardo?
Did I miss anyone? Ofcourse I did! Gypsy? Moonie? Tele?
You are all welcome! Just list your names.

Got it? Get it? Good!
Every time these things go down they are the a blast!
Even if you think you can't make it you casn always try.
So don't be afraid to speak up!
Hell of a good time for sure! Let's plan this fucker now!

Riffhard
February 6th, 2005 12:59 PM
LadyJane Yeah! Let's plan this. I'm definitely in.
Outdoors enjoying some Sun. We can make a whole day of it.
Under the stars, with my RO pals, getting lit. Nice.

Howe could this not be a blast?
One thing though...I'm NOT gonna be the sole female.
Randy bunch of RO men and ME?? Then again?
Now we need a date. Summer is good, IMO.
Down in the Hole blasting as we explore Howe Caverns.
Outstanding idea! Nanky you are a genius.
Gotta make this happen. We need some good Stonesian bonding
Sounds like the perfect little getaway.
