glencar Certainly not "Abracadabra"!
January 31st, 2005 10:00 PM
Brainbell Jangler Three favorites:
"Your Saving Grace"
"Recall the Beginning"
"Brave New World"
I also love #5.
"Your Saving Grace" is not currently available on CD. This is so wrong! Nicky Hopkins does some excellent work on that album.

Brainbell Jangler Stevie Guitar Miller is still around and touring right now.
January 31st, 2005 10:23 PM
full moon The ones that he does NOT put out....

seclusion I love Steve Miller! Saw him in concert '78? The album, can't recall the name, that has 'Take the Money & Run' is great! Brings back some great memories.
February 1st, 2005 12:12 AM
kath he was amazing when i saw him years ago. right after hendrix died, ans steve did a tribute to him that was just fanfuckintastic.

i love children of the future (the album) and sailor (the album) and "your saving grace" the album....they werevery important when they were released. he and boz skaggs...best of the best.

he is a great guitar player.

i hate seeing him now, does the old shit (abracadabra, big ol' jet airliner, etc) it's crap.

but in his day, he was one of the very best!

sammy davis jr. The Joker, especially "Evil" and "Your Cash 'Aint Nothin' But Trash".....nice record.
February 1st, 2005 08:18 AM
T&A Saw him at the Fillmore in '96 - just doing blues songs - did an incredible Cream-like cover of RJ's Crossroads. Blew the roof off - never seen any recordings circulate from that tour - if anyone knows of one - lemme know.

Bloozehound I heat up, I can't cool down
You got me spinnin'
'Round and 'round
'Round and 'round and 'round it goes
Where it stops nobody knows

Every time you call my name
I heat up like a burnin' flame
Burnin' flame full of desire
Kiss me baby, let the fire get higher

Abra-abra-cadabra
I want to reach out and grab ya
Abra-abra-cadabra
Abracadabra

You make me hot, you make me sigh
You make me laugh, you make me cry
Keep me burnin' for your love
With the touch of a velvet glove

Abra-abra-cadabra
I want to reach out and grab ya
Abra-abra-cadabra
Abracadabra

I feel the magic in your caress
I feel magic when I touch your dress
Silk and satin, leather and lace
Black panties with an angel's face

I see magic in your eyes
I hear the magic in your sighs
Just when I think I'm gonna get away
I hear those words that you always say

Abra-abra-cadabra
I want to reach out and grab ya
Abra-abra-cadabra
Abracadabra

Every time you call my name
I heat up like a burnin' flame
Burnin' flame full of desire
Kiss me baby, let the fire get higher

I heat up, I can't cool down
My situation goes 'round and 'round
I heat up, I can't cool down
My situation goes 'round and 'round
I heat up, I can't cool down
My situation goes 'round and 'round

gimmekeef Miller's song Brave New World is a blatant rip off of the Beatles.."I Think Its Getting Better All The Time"

No.

Gazza Some of his stuff from the early/mid 70's ain't bad, but unfortunately the sheer lyrical inanity that is "The Joker" has resulted in me having a deliberate mental block on remembering anything I may have at one time liked.

Argh! I knew there would be someone to rip on the beloved soundtrack of my best high school memories. That's the problem with hanging on a board full of people with good taste...
February 1st, 2005 11:50 AM
Gazza sorry, Caro, but "lovey dovey/lovey dovey/lovey dovey/all the time (wah wah)/ooh-ee baby, I'll sure show you a good time" is undoubtedly the worst lyrical couplet in the history of the gramophone record...
February 1st, 2005 11:59 AM
caro LOL! Well ok. In my defense, my english skills were very limited around the time I discovered the song.
February 1st, 2005 12:02 PM
Gazza so were mine. I was 12.
February 1st, 2005 12:12 PM
Gazza I don't be-lieve it!

The fucking "Joker" has just started playing on the radio in my office!

Cue "Twilight Zone" music...

I think that's my signal to get the hell out of here and go home for the day....
February 1st, 2005 12:18 PM
gimmekeef Well Gazza...Some people call you the space cowboy!
February 1st, 2005 12:24 PM
Factory Girl Gazza, the "cyber-space" cowboy.

PS. Maxlugar told me that Ellen Degenerate is a cowboy (or, she plays a cowboy for Portia De Rossi).

while we're on the subject - what the hell is the "pompitous (sp) of love"? I've never heard that word anywhere else in my entire life
February 1st, 2005 01:46 PM
Nellcote Chicks loved Miller.
I learned to like Miller, as I dug chicks.
Then I turned them onto the Stones.
Had them eating out of my hands...

Sir Stonesalot Someone gave me a Steve Miller greatest hits CD.

It was blank.

Ba-rump-bump.

Actually, someone really did give me a Steve Miller greatest CD....I don't remember ever playing it.

I always thought Steve Miller would fit in nice with The Eagles or Steely Dan. Ersatz music. Soft rock lite.
February 1st, 2005 02:28 PM
gimmekeef Gazza..I think pompitous is a term Bono came up to describe himself isnt it?
