And it sure been a cold, cold winter
And the wind ain't been blowin' from the south
It's sure been a cold, cold winter
And a lotta love is all burned out
It sure been a hard, hard winter
My feet been draggin' 'cross the ground
And I hope it's gonna be a long, hot summer
And a lotta love will be burnin' bright
And I wish I been out in California
When the lights on all the Christmas trees went out
But I been burnin' my bell, book and candle
And the restoration plays have all gone 'round
It sure been a cold, cold winter
My feet been draggin' 'cross the ground
And the fields has all been brown and fallow
And the springtime take a long way around
Yeah, and I wish I been out in Stone Canyon
When the lights on all the Christmas trees went out
But I been burnin' my bell, book and candle
And the restoration plays have all gone 'round
Sometimes I think about you, baby
Sometimes I cry about you
Sometimes I wanna wrap my coat around you
Sometimes I wanna keep you warm
Sometimes I wanna wrap my coat around you
Sometimes I wanna but I can't afford you
------------
Oh, that's EXACTLY how I feel right now. It's freezing cold outside, it's been the most terible week of my life for the past five years, full of hospitals, closures, endings and all that horrible stuff and I wish it could be summer right about now...
Such a wonderful song, ain't it? It's got that "hand around your shoulder" quality of blues songs that Keith speaks about. God, I really need to listen to "Winter", and I still got six hours of work and a hospital visit before that |

Yes!! I agree with you. WInter has always been one of my favorite songs. Mick puts out such a soulful effort.
And whatever happened to our RO member WInter? He was fun. |

Yes, take care, Fotini!
By the way, a few weeks ago on Shidoobee, they were discussing the last line of the song...whether it was "but I can't afford you" or "burn a candle for ya". I had always seemed to hear the latter, but then again, my french ears will always go for the easily-understandable words...
Does anyone have a definitive answer on which is the right lyric?

I hear ya. All schools in the Region, here, are closed (including the university where I work) because of a winter storm that's blowing through. Started yesterday and will continue into tomorrow.

I like Winter just fine, but it's always struck me as modeled - structurally - after YCAGWYW. And, it's not nearly in that league... |

So far it's just been flurries in the NY area. I leave work for home in 2 hours or so & am hoping to beat the predicted freezing drizzle. As for "Winter" I first heard it at the end of a local newscast in 1980. I knew it was the Stones but had to hunt down where it was from. Ah, that first flush of ecstasy... |
