I think the last really good "creative" Stones tune, as in not the norm and took their sound to a place it hasn't been before was Love is Strong. I know there were others such as Anybody Seen My Baby and Might as Well get Juiced but I think Love is Strong surpasses those in terms of a great song.
What does anyone eles think and what is theirs?

Love is Strong to me is a remake of 5 diffferent Stones songs, and a direct copy of Wicked as it Seems. To, the last "original" Stones songs are Might as Well Get Juiced, which is a modern blues, and How Can I Stop, which is un-Stonesy jazzy.

IMo, Might As well get juiced and Anybody Seen My baby are horrible.
Last truelly creative win for The Stones? Side 2 of Tattoo You. Though there have been some cool things here and there since then.
BUT, when ya think about it, Creativity isn't really a strong point for Stones, but finding a great grinding R-n-R groove is. By "Creative", do you mean taking chances on new sounds and succeeding? i don't think so.

That's funny, cause I was listening to Love is Strong last night and I was thinking almost of the same stuff: the song is strong, and it might have those influences in it as mentioned by Mathijs, but as someone might say, "they're all cousins" or something
Love is Strong has this heavy sound in it, and the fabulous harmonica adds a lot to the bluesy/Stonesy feel. I'd say modern Stones at their best.
Have we heard anything as strong since that? Can "Don't Stop" survive the comparison? I don't think so.
But I told you, I got a good feeling this new album is going to kick some a$$. Just wait and see. |

I do hope you're right about the new album. "Don't Stop" and the other two were too "Goddess in the Doorway"-sounding. |

Hmmm... I think the only bad thing about Might As Well Get Juiced IS in fact the Dust Brothers involvement. |

Always thought Saint of Me was excellent. If this was released before the album as the first single, BTB would have been huge. The Stones fuck up a lot when it comes to releasing the first singles off albums, and the public goes YAWN and then ignores some really good songs. |

The last GOOD song is Love Is Strong, the last original track is Continental Drift.
Migh As Well Get Juiced is one of the worst songs, the song not is so bad but those effects are horrible. |

All good points up there.
I think the track Undercover (of the night) was
1. Creative
2. Dancy
3. .....and still kicks ass all in one song!
How many other songs can you say consist of that odd combination and work that well to make a great song like that? It is the Stones genius at work that does that.
