ohnonot youagain Is the Stones Knebworth 76 boot the worst in quality from the 76 European tour. Any recommendations for some great quality ones from this tour in stereo.
23rd November 2007 06:35 PM
mrhipfl I hate that boot. They sound like shit, 'specially Mick and Keef.

stonedinaustralia i haven't heard the whole show but the tracks i have heard i thought were excellent - so there you go - mind you the wild horses is not as good as LA 75 - imho

pdog I think the 76 tour was their worst... BUT!!! If you like the 76 sound, then Knebworth is a good one as far as sound quality goes...

riccardo Just released is a 2cd set called Europe 76 Revisited that contains all Soundboards from 76.

Jaggedblues I think the soundboard part of Knebworth sounds pretty good but the audience part is crap.

I wish they'd done Country Honk in its entirety that night instead of just a tease. Anywho.

fireontheplatter i would like a copy please

Throwaway Try to get the Paris shows, if you can. The video is also available from the 6th I believe, and is in pretty good quality.
25th November 2007 09:30 PM
stonedinaustralia yeah - the DVD of the paris shows leave LYL for dead sound wise

mick did a good interview which is on my DVD - he didnt sound happy with the way LYL was recorded (the paris stuff) - he said the engineer types took over putting mics. all around the arena - when maybe one or two mics. (a la Ya Yas) - got a much better recording

Eh, how can 9-10 hours of music fit in on one 2cd set ?

riccardo So,I got this Europe 76 2cd set from Godfather Records and must say this is a real surprise: first of all the sound is excellent (Paris 4th sbd is stereo)then it brings on the best possible Knebworth soundboard tracks: gone the annoying sounds from Jagger's microphone during L.Red Rooster and also much less hiss than before, great stereo separation. The set comes with a 4 pages booklet and a replica of the Euro Tour poster, very nice indeed.
CD 1 is 72 minutes,cd 2 is 80 minutes long.

Mr Jurkka

This is good version. Ronnie plays well on this n' and the main part of the song is good.

Thanks for the pre-review, Riccardo. Are you sure it's the June 4th show ? There's no SBD source for that concert, apart from "Angie". A lot of bootlegs is labeled June 4th, but it's really June 6th.
If the poor Godfather label really come up with a better source for Knebworth, I hope they release the whole concert. But I suspect an extreme noise-reduction to have been used for the things you mention there. Because those noises were present at the concert as well; there's no way of removing it without turning to strong filters and such....which would spoil the sound completely

stonedinaustralia during Negrita I think it is there is some noise you will never get rid of no matter how good your noise reduction gear...the feedback from jagger's mic. and the foldback is out of control

in a way it sounds quite wild as the band keep grinding away(very funkily) on the riff while holocausts of noise screech and howl over the top - as if Lou Reed in Metal Machine Music mode had come on for a guest spot guitar solo

andrews27 I kind of like the feeedback. Something has to be spontaneous...
