nankerphelge I gotta say, the Nolte is pretty good.

Not "Jagbonics" caliber, but the whole drooling thing is just classic. And that mug shot of Nick's .. too funny!

stonedinaustralia hey nanker - i might submit it just to see i get a response even if it's a rejection

i get the gist of "jagbonics" - what is it's derivation?
12-07-02 09:29 PM
nankerphelge I would guess 1997 or so -- there was some push for education of Ebonics here in the States and I heard some description of Ebonics as a derivation of the English language with an African twist and I thought "shit that sounds like Mick"

12-07-02 09:36 PM
stonedinaustralia i must admit, i don't believe i've heard of ebonics - could you give me a brief decription - sounds interesting - thanks

i can just imagine the editors' meeting -

ed. in chief: "err.. we have a letter here from a mr.stonedinaustralia notifying us of the existence of a new word coined by a mr.nankerphelge...he claims it has almost universal currency and is presently used daily by peoples throughout north and south america , the entire EEC, south africa, iceland, australasia and japan and says there is apocryphal evidence of people using the word in the scientific outposts of antarctica and parts of africa formerly the home-land of a certain mr. paco gerte...and it's origin is,apparantley, an internet message board devoted to the rolling stones and all the music, drugs, sex and general madness and unlawful behaviour that is associated with them...well, ladies and gentlemen, what do you think??"

1st sub editor "well, i can certainly see the need for such a word...why, only this morning i woke up in the local lock-up half blind and bleeding from every orifice with my last memory being ordering another drink after having just come back from a quick smoke out the back of the pub just after i'd already knocked back half a dozen double G&Ts in less than an hour...anyway, i was thinking to myself...what have i done??... not just what did i do that i couldn't remember but what do you call it when you do what i had just done....now i know, i had a "nolte"...i think it's excellent and high time the word was given it's due recognition - i vote YES for "nolte" and all that it stands for..."

Ebonics is an acceptable term for black jive takin' essentially. A few years ago, several black leaders in the US were pushing education reforms that would have included teaching black kids in that type of slang and evaluating progress based on same. Thankfully for those black kids who would have been put at a severe disadvantage, it died a pretty quick death when it couldn't be proven that LA style gangsta rap originated in Africa.

It still pops up every now and then. I had a law school prof that advocated a different criminal justice system for blacks because they had a different set of cultural morals and it wasn't fair for them to be judged by honkey ones!

thanx sirm

i was always going to use that line if i ever got busted for pot possession - as a certifiable (and i use that word advisedly) stones nut my "cultural morals" are different from those of other less enlightened citizens and thus possession of cannabis by me is not a crime - but rather me exercising my right to religious freedom and the use and possession of the sacraments of my belief system - fortunately, i don't have to worry about that anymore as possession for "personal use" is now decriminalized here -'tho i don't know how that would have gone down with the board of examiners much less the magistrate!!

more seriously (and excuse the nsc), there is a similiar line of thinking down here in re the indigenous population -particularly in the "outback", aboriginals can be dealt with in line with their own tribal law in some instances for some offences - that all came to pass after the "Mabo" decision in '88 when the High Court overturned the accepted notion that the colonization of australia was an example of the doctrine of "terra nullius" - essentially that case was about land rights but the recognition by the court that the indigenous inhabitants did in fact have some form of "legal system" prior to the arrival of "whitey" was extended further...i think, in that "outback" situation at least and from a socio/political point of view, that in some ways it's not a bad idea and can work - but it does throw up some rather tricky legal problems when trying to square it away with the idea of one system of justice for all

cheers
