Saint Sway anyone here familiear with Powderfinger?

not the Neil Young song, but the band. I've been listening to some of their stuff online and its got a bit of Primal Scream Stones rip off thing goin on. Was wondering if anyone could tell me a little about them?

stonedinaustralia proud to say they are australian - straight out of brisbane

i don't go much for "rock" bands but these guys are cool as they also "roll"

forget the primal Scream comparison - that's just an accident due to the fact that they play fairly straight ahead rock and roll

can see the stones comparison though (also remind me of bowie in places)

don't know what your lisening to but they have some great tracks

my favs

Don't Want to be Left Out

Hindley Street

These Days

check them out

Saint Sway I bought their record "Vulture Street" off itunes. Diggin it.

I hear you on the Bowie comparison. But I'd say more of a modern day T Rex. And they also remind me a little bit of the Stereophonics. Definately some Stonesy elements in there too. Especially the campier 70s stuff. And some noticeable Stonesy hooks

Saint Sway thanks StonedinAustralia for the link to their site. I just read the bio. Apparantly the big rock sound is a new thing for these guys. Which is fine cuz we need more bands that are gonna embrace cock rock.

also read that Brendan OBrian produced the new record. Which explains a lot. Hes great with straight up rock records. Did a good job with The Black Crowes "Shake Your Money Maker" and a ton of other cool bands.

stones-addict 'My Happiness' is pretty good.

corgi37 And, like most Aussie bands, are absolutely killer live! They are our biggest band at the moment. Have been for awhile. Yes, named after the Neil Young song. And, to me, Bernard Fanning has a very good "Youngish" voice.

Saint Sway do they cover Neil?

what are some bands/songs they cover?
December 6th, 2004 07:07 PM
telecaster I have always liked most Aussie bands

They seem to know how to put it all together

Please do not include Russell Crowe in the above mentioned

Aussie rocks

I dont hear Neil at all in his voice on this record. Reminds me in a way of the singer from Tragically Hip

corgi37 Please note:

Russell Crowe is only Australian when he wins oscars or has a drunken brawl.

WHen he is involved in music in any fucking way, he is a New Zealander.

Back to Powderfinger. I could be wrong here, really wrong. But, i think they supported the Cult way back in the mid 90's.

Anyway, i cant recommend them enough to you guys. They have a greatest hits out which is a good introduction.

Vulture St was a bit more rockier than their prior stuff. There are nods to the Stones in their music, no doubt. I normally dislike bands from my own country. I dont know why, i just think the majority suck. Always trying to be something they are not. Whether its trying to be gangsta, trying to be insane (the Vines, and in their case, not "trying", but "are"!!) or trying to be Oasis.

Or, singing country in annoying Yank accents, like Kasey Chambers and Keith Urban do.

But, Powderfinger can go along with the great rockers like Billy Thorpe, Cold Chisel and Air Supply.

P.S. Joking with that last group! der!

Factory Girl Not a fan of Russell Crowe.

But, I'll check out Powderfinger.
