I'm new playing open g and i'm ''discovering'' Stones songs
I put a capo on the 4th fret in my open g tuned guitar (acoustic) just to play JJF like Keith does at the shows and i realised that using the same chords i could play MR but i'm not sure completely if what i'm doing is right...could someone give me a hand?....just Keith main part
Thanks! |

Flashpoint, Keith plays Midnight Rambler in standard tuning with a capo on the 7th fret. |

Yes.
Keith does play midnight rambler in standard tuning.
Capo seventh fret.
then (I think) Ronnie plays the "Neh NEH!" (you know what I mean).
OR
like I play it..
Barre on seventh B-chord.
then Asus4 to A on fifth (the "Neh NEH!")
Asus4
e-5-
B-5-
G-7-
D-7-
A-5-
E-5-
P.S. I know what I'm talking about. Been the playing the guitar since the age of 7. Peace.

Speaking of Open G, does anybody know how Keith plays YCAGWYW live? I think he uses a capo on the 4th fret but I haven't been able to figure out the riff. On the studio version he doesn't use open G, but like a few other Stones tracks (Jumpin' Jack Flash and Street Fighting Man) he has adapted it for Open G in concert. |

Now it's my time to help
YCAGWYW live : 5-String-open-G telecaster (Honky, Start me Up),capo on 5th fret and use the open sound and the F chord for the verses...i don't know exactly the riff but i fool around with those 2 chords of the classic riff of T Dice for the parts that goes right after''you get what you neeeeeed''and in the part ''but if you try sometimes'' i use the ''D chord'' in the 7th fret...i am based on the Steel Wheels live shows.
It's so fun these kind of songs in open G....ADTL, You Got Me Rocking, I Go Wild, Tops, Mixed Emotions,CYHMK,Wanna Hold You..different but there are C,F,B,D for the main parts and some other chord for the chorus...Keith you're the Lord!

"Since 7 hmps?...but when did you started with open g?"
Played open tunings for 1.5 years aprox.
YCAGWYW - Studio: open E. capo 8.
- Live: Open G capo 5.
the song is in Cadd9 and F (chorus: D F Cadd9 something - from memory)
my favorite open tuning for slide is open E (or D quite the same)
like open G to - for the stones chords and stuff
A really wierd tuning is the tuning in "When The Levee Breaks" from Led Zeppelin IV. It's E A C F A c (low to
high).
play it with a slide.
and yet another sensational disclosure:
my dear guitar friend Steve Ray Vaughan uses the thickness of 0.14 on his strings!
0.14 --> and up on his high "E-string".
that's were the sloppieness and feel comes from his interp of Mr Hendrix "Little Wing" or "Pride and Joy".

I have a crappy Samick guitar...hey, I'm not a serious player, but it suits me well. I've had it for years, and I don't feel the need to get something expensive if I'm not a serious player. I don't even know how to read notes, I just play the damn thing.
But, I can wail on an alto Sax and I'm starting to get better with the harp...got MR down on the harp (at least I think I do LOL). |
