Are there any really good Grateful Dead DVDs (official or bootleg) that are must have, IE the equivalent of Ladies and Gentlemen?
As much stuff as I have, I was humiliated recently when someone asked me for a Dead DVD and I had none. |

Both "The Grateful Dead Movie" and "Closing of Winterland" are essential. There's also "Festival Express" which has some spectacular footage of the Dead, The Band, Janis Joplin and Buddy Guy (and others) shot during there 1970 train tour across Canada. This is a must-see also. |

We don't want any Grateful Dead stuff here...they are not a band that Stone fans ever embraced. |

I'd love to get my hands on this one. That train tour has assumed epic proportions over the years. Imagine, all these superfreaks on one train, jamming across Canada. A real party on wheels...

This bit torrent is still going...it's black and white, when you view it, it's best to turn down the brightness on your television...this is a very nice show.
I would say don't download or buy any DVD after 1990. Vince Welnick was a terrible keyboard player when he was with the dead.

The 1st time I saw the Dead they encored with Satisfaction.
I not sure about his keyboard playing, but I like his backing vocals. |

I think that the Stones cared about John Phillips. Or maybe Mick was only trying to bang Mackenzie Phillips.
I believe everything that I read. I love foxnews. |

get yer head out of your ass, counsellor!!
for many years the Dead did both a better "Satisfaction" and a much better NFA than have the Stones...
btw, smartass, the Essen show was with the Who, Pete jammed on a smokin' NFA

I recommend "Downhill from Here", Alpine Valley, 1989 and also "Ticket to New Years" 1987-88. Hopefully now available on DVD. I have as part of 4 VHS special set entitled "The Grateful Dead Collection".
Agree that the band peaked well before Vince joined. |

Agree. 89-90 was fantastic. The fall 90 shows were also spectacularly good considering they had just lost a key band member, thanks to the great Bruce Hornsby.
I too saw a Satisfaction encore. Philly 83. The Rectum. The Dead have also covered The Last Time and the Stones' arrangements of Let The Good Times Roll and It's All Over Now, proving a strong Stones-Dead connection and that once again someone is full of shit. |
