Neverland bash a flop
Michael Jackson's Neverland open day has failed to light the fire of American tourists who seemed unwilling to fork out up to five grand a pop to get the chance to stroke llamas and ride on Jacko's fairground rides. Even celebrities were thin on the ground at the weekend event, and only a lone Backstreet Boy turned up alongside ear biter Mike Tyson - himself in the same financial difficulties as Jacko. Celebs such as Liz Taylor and Ben 'n' J.Lo, hyped as attendees, failed to show on the day, and tickets are said to have been sold for as little as £150, nowhere near their original asking price.
The exercise was intended to fight the recent negative press the fallen King of Pop has attracted but has only helped to further damage his reputation with speculation about where the money he made from the tickets would go. He received a further blow last week when it was revealed that the taxes he pays for the Neverland Ranch may be increased following an investigation into the way his land is used. He was receiving a tax break for undeveloped parts of land but this will diminish over the next nine years as he has developed large parts of the ranch. It seems Jacko's glory days are now certainly, in his own words, history.
