OTTAWA - It was a Ruby Tuesday as the Rolling Stones said goodbye to Ottawa yesterday. The band flew out of the nation's capital and into the sunset yesterday afternoon, leaving a lasting impression on local fans.
Mick Jagger stood outside his chartered Air Canada plane just minutes before takeoff and gave a few police officers nearby an autograph.
Climbing up to the front entrance of the plane, Jagger was the last band member to leave Ottawa soil.
A concert at Frank Clair Stadium on Sunday night followed by a music video shoot ending early yesterday morning at Zaphod Beeblebrox provided rock 'n' rollers with a summer to remember.
The herds of excited fans who waited to catch a glimpse of the boys Monday night got their wish as the Stones left individually from the Market at around 11 p.m.
"Mick! I wanna shoot a porn video with you!" screamed one female fan as Jagger stopped to wave at his admirers before being whisked away in a black sedan.
Filming of the music video Streets of Love got under way hours after the Stones left and groups of lucky extras received the rock star treatment well into the late hours of the night.
Picnic tables set up with food and bottled water as well as access to the trailers in between sets, gave the extras a feeling of what it was like to be the centre of attention.
A scene for the video being filmed directly outside the club involved one male extra bumping into another male extra, who then punched him in the face and ran off.
The few onlookers who were willing to stay up late witnessed a significant part of history: A rock 'n' roll music video being filmed on the streets of downtown Ottawa in front of a strip club at 2 a.m.
Before being whisked to the airport, Jagger squeezed in a bit of last-minute sightseeing at the National Gallery of Canada on Sussex Dr. Clad in a light pink suit jacket, jeans and running shoes, Jagger's visit was low-key.
His bodyguard purchased the tickets, so many employees and patrons weren't even initially aware the famous Stone was in their midst.
"He's just a regular dude. (My co-worker) walked right by him and didn't even know it was him," said one gallery employee.
