... and not since then. This reflects two possibilities.
1) They nailed it.
2) They didn't.
I think option 2 is the case - although now with "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" under their belts, their entire catalogue is in their palms...
-tSYX --- Won't you come in and settle down? |

...and one of the "Rollers" was named "Woody"!! Is there a Stones-Rollers connection? Regarding Sway, I hope it's played on tour, but seeing how it's already a slow song and the Stones seem to slow everything down even more live nowdays, it would probably sound like they're playing it at 16 speed. Shit, I couldn't believe how badly they mangled "The Last Time" on the last tour-wayyyy to slow, and the drums never were right. |

Come on man, do you really think The Stones can't play their own song? I mean, Sway is not a very hard song to do. Also, some cat made the statement that they couldn't do CYHMK. It would be rather fucked up if the musicians that wrote and recorded these tunes couldn't pull it off. I must say that after listening to CYHMK it sounded very good for their first go at it. I just wish that Keith would use a Gibson on this one with more distortion. |

gary glitter is currently fighting extradition from cambodia. They want to kick the fucker out, but he must have hidden some money, as he's still there. 1 of the bay city rollers did indeed recently get done for child molesting. It was the drummer, Derek. He's a nurse now. I think he got a bond, not jail. ANother roller, les i think, made a few stick movies about 12 years ago. Not hard core or anything, just adult party games, which indeed, was the title. As for Sway, it is my all time fave stones track, and i am surprised, but gladdened that alot of fine folk on this site dig the song. To me it has all the stones traits that make them special. Out of phase backing vocals, raucus distorted guitar, muddied vocals, and timing that seems to be veering close to total collapse. My only gripe, is i wish the strings, that are brought up in the mix towards the end of the song, were more evident all the way through. I hope to the high heavens they do it live, and its on the tour dvd. |

After hearing "Thief In The Night" from '99, a few versions of Keith's "Happy" on a 'bad night', and "Fingerprint File" off of Lurrrrrrve Ya Live...
The answer is yes - they are old, it was a long time ago, and they're missing Bill and adding Ronnie. Anything before '75 is not a 100% guarentee.
I did say, that now, with "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", they're climbing mountains, and I have no doubt that they *could* do "Sway" if they really wanted to. But remember, Keith didn't play in the studio version, and I seem to recall he don't like the song - and while he's learned to live with Mick picking songs he doesn't particularly care for, my guess is they played it, Mick said "Well..." and Keith said "Good! What's next?"
-tSYX --- I can't get no... Orpheum ticket...

So let me get this straight. Since the boys have got a few years on them now, they can't play tunes that they once did? You don't just stop knowing how to play. These are pretty damn good musicians and I'm sure that they can pull ANY of their tunes off. After all it is THEIR tunes! As for the statement about "Happy, Fingerprint File, and others not sounding that good, or I assume at least different then the Studio work, they are not suppose to sound like a waxed over studio band. In live performances they can shape it and do with it what they will because it's just that, "Live", music for the moment. Who wants to see a band and have it sound just like the record? There for, any thing pre-75', they can do 100%. It may not be to your liking, but they certainly CAN play it. Stones music is not very complicated music to play to start with. So I'm sure that they have the ability to play any of the tunes that they want. If they couldn't, we would not be here ready for a new tour to start. |

I can't believe it when someone thinks " can they play that anymore". Every song I have heard them do live has been great, even the old ones they drag out sometimes and play. Just because it was done before Ronnie joined does not mean they can't play it. I hate to tell you folks, as much as I love Taylor's playing, the Stones existed before he ever joined. It is not like he joined and made them the greatest band, they already had that status before he came along and I bet he shit his pants to be joining the Stones.
They have not forgotten how to play, they may play it arranged differetnly but they have almost always done that with songs from tour to tour. So rock on boys!!!!!Play it all big and small! |
