Just got back from picking it up @ lunch.
It is truly wicked pissa.
Great liner notes, photos.
Well done Mac!
Rod The Mod is playing here 2 nite, if it wasn't for the Sominex stuff he's trotting out now, I'd go and yell at him to reunite The Faces NOW!

MAAAAAAAAAAAARTHA!
Quick look @ these 4 discs it appears everything from
Nod is here, along with live cuts. Go get it NOW, do not delay, remember operators are standing by!

JB: Seems a certain "fish" team was below .500 at this time last year and they went on to win it all. Talk to me on 10/10/04 when the Phins go down to the Pats!

No doubt about it this set is a must have. Some brilliant work from the two Ronnies (Wood & Lane) and you can't deny Rod Stewart during this era had one of the best vioces around!

Nice package and some entertaining liner notes from Mac. Only complaint is that the sound quality is a little uneven at times which I suppose is not surprising given the source of some of the recordings. The quality of the performances more than makes up for that!!

Buy it now!!

Cheers,

Mottrush

Let them know it's a subscriber-based newsletter that you opted to receive.

For those who are registered on the mailing list, you should have received a copy of the email by now. If you haven't, try the above or re-register on the mailing list with a different email other than AOL.

Hello Martha! Allow me to answer your question regarding A Nod is as....get it. Get it now and while your at it get Ooh La La and Snakes and Ladders. There are some repeats on Snakes and Ladders and Ooh La La,but there is some great stuff on S and L that is not available elswhere on disk. I've yet to get the box set,but it's on my list for sure. The Faces were the shit in their heyday they were the ones actully living the life that the Stones were giving photo ops to at that point. They were party hard rock and rollers with a real piss and vinegar attitude. The Stones meanwhile were flying high at 35,000 feet with the likes of Truman Capote and Renee Radziwill and all those other New York society types.

Faces were loud brash English rock and roll jetsetters without the jet. I love everything they ever put out.

Soldatti I bought it yestarday to a very high "import" price. The whole thing is great!

July 31st, 2004 04:38 PM
Rags Great post Riffhard! I'm so impressed and forever grateful to Mac for compiling and producing this set. This project has been a labor of love for the past four years.

Soldatti, hope the price wasn't too outrageous. The best bet is to order straight from Mac and then it's signed personally and delivered from the man himself. If anyone still needs a copy tell Mac I sent ya:
http://www.macspages.com/merch.htm

So much is going on right now to celebrate Mac's new CD, Rise & Shine! and 'Five guys.' Keep checking our gigs page because I continually update it with Bump gigs, live broadcasts, solo gigs/readings, radio specials/interviews, etc. There was a really cool 'Five guys' special on Melbourne radio yesterday (the great thing is that you can tune in online). They played quite a bit of material from the Box interspersed with Mac's interview. Part 2 continues next week! More details on that and other events here: http://www.ianmclagan.com/gigs

Hope to see some of you at the Bump gigs in Austin next week or Mac's solo gigs in NYC the following week! :-)

Rags I'll be in NYC for Ian McLagan's gigs 8/16 & 17. Just thought I'd give a shout out incase anyone will be in the area. Hope to see you there! Here are the details...

Mac attacks the Big Apple!

Mac will be performing in NYC at Makor August 16th and Virgin Union Square on August 17th. Come celebrate the release of Ian McLagan & the Bump Band's 'Rise & Shine!' and the long-awaited Faces Box Set, 'Five guys walk into a bar...'

"This will be a reading, singing, playing the piano and dancing show. Ok, there's no dancing, but I will be reading, singing, playing the piano and telling lies. Well, not lies exactly, just extended truths, you know, stories.

And I'll sign anything and answer any questions and give away money. OK, I won't be giving away money, you'll be doing that, but I will be doing all the other things, OK?

That's reading, singing, playing the piano and forgetting lyrics. No I won't do that but I will be signing, answering and giving my
all."

luridchief Martha, I recommend just picking up the box. Everything's remastered, plus there's all the new bonus tracks and killer live stuff. I think there's only a few studio cuts missing (the cover of "Memphis," Ronnie Lane's "Stone"), but for the most part, it's everything PLUS!

AMG called it possibly the greatest box set ever--and I agree!
August 11th, 2004 06:21 PM
Rags Good point. The individual CDs of the studio albums are of poorer quality. The 'Best Of' CD, 'Good Boys...When They're Asleep' and the new Box Set are completely remastered and had the full involvement of one Ian McLagan. He did an amazing job producing the Box.
