Was looking through the board to see was there any thread about meeting up in Dublin in 2 weeks. Couldn't find one so thought I would start one myself!
For those coming to the Slane Castle show, what are your plans? I'm getting into Dublin late thursday night. Will be looking to go for a few pints the friday night before the gig. Does anyone have any ideas or are there any plans set yet? Anyone decide what pub to go to?
How about heading over to Co. Meath on saturday for the gig. Are people heading over early to catch the support acts? Are people getting their own transport or hiring buses / public transport etc?
I was at an outdoor Aerosmith gig in Dublin a few weeks back. It was held in a park outside the city and took forever to get there with all the traffic. For the 70,000 or so punters heading to Slane I reckon it will be gridlock on saturday. May be wise to go along early. Dublin is renound for traffic jams.
Any information or ideas that people have would be greatly appreciated.
"Thank you! Thank you very much indeed. Thank you very kindly!" (Sir Mick of Jagger, Brussels, 1973) |

Going down that day from Belfast on the bus and back the same night. Would have loved to have made a weekend of it in Dublin but with a 6-night trip to London coming up a few days later, theres a strong possibility that if I'd attempted to swing this one as well, I may end up getting shot. |

I'll be arriving at Dublin airport the morning of the 17th(Friday) & I'll be up for anything on Friday night. Saturday I'm heading up to Slane with some friends so I'm not sure what time I'll be arriving there. I guess the Temple Bar area is where all the tourists go? I'm a bit limited in my knowledge of Dublin but I'll be staying with friends in one of the western suburbs. |

Temple Bar - yes.
Incidentally, the buses for Slane leave from Parnell Square which is at the very north end of O'Connell Street (ie, up around the Parnell statue/Rotunda Hospital area)

Following e-mail came today from Ticketmaster. please note the start time given for the Stones is bollocks and obviously a typo. They'll only be on at 20.00 if The Charlatans split after about one song. If the rest of the show runs to schedule, 20.30 (at the earliest) or as late as 21.00 should be their start time.

In fairness, I've been to Slane six times for shows (the last was 1995) and the weather was great for all of them. |

I,m arriving Friday afternoon. Up for anything Friday night. I'm in staggering distance of Temple bar area.
Maybe we need to get together with the other boards if numbers are low ?

Thats both you and Glencar who have said on this thread that you're "up for anything"....
Is there some kind of Perverts' Summit going on that I haven't been told about? |

LOL Well, when I got to the PO, the envelope wasn't there. Apparently it's still on the delivery truck so I have to go tomorrow again. But, I'm up for anything! |

Greetings to one an' all,
Howdy Jaymze! Aerosmith were good, but the stones shall be better!
A topic about this came up a few weeks ago, and methinks I added a post about Gogarty's Pub in Temple Bar, but, that's a wee bit small maybe. I think 'Bruxelles' would also be an excellent one, very central, off Grafton Street -- for once, the upstairs part, not the dingy rock pub down below^ A link to some info on it here:
http://www.dublinpubscene.com/thepubs/bruxelles.html
What do y'all think of that one?
To finish with a quote from Sir Mick,
"Just bust a button on my trousers. You don't want my trousers to fall down now do ya"^
Oh gosh, that brings back memories of Mr. P's show in Bruxelles that night after the Whitesnake gig -- the horror of it all!!!!^
'Slainte'(Cheers)

I was thinking of Bruxelles as well. It's fairly central and there is a good atmosphere. The only problem would be finding seats inside, but if we go along early then we may be fine.
And Gearoid (Irelandcalling) don't mention that faithful night after Whitesnake. That night of dude looks like a lady and the extra firm handshake. Glencar says he is up for anything -he may find it downstairs in the pub! |

Yikes! I better wear a belt! |

-- Aah sure, a Friday night in Dublin town, every place will be packed anyway!
Bruxelles(the upstairs main part) would be quite the cool spot alright, so keep that one in mind!
Many-a-tale from nights out before and after gigs in Dublin -- aah the memories -- eating fish'n'chips on the bonnet of Bono's car, much to the chagrin of Bono himelf^ The firmer than usual handshake & the adam's apple of the Bruxelles experience, sleeping in the 'Ghost Room' of our friends house, after inhaling some mary-joanna^, still convinced I heard ghostly voices that night while drifting off to paranormal sleep -- can't wait for the stones night for more stories!
