How can anyone in their right mind think that this is the end of the road for Stones studio work ? I know that most of you are smarter than that...at least I was hoping.
These guys have been doing studio albums for almost fifty years.
Barring health problems or personal tragedy these guys will be making studio records until the grim reaper comes a rockin'.
Bob Hope told jokes until the end and so did Ronald Reagan.
Don't believe everything you hear. They love their work and they love their lives and there is only some much time in a day and so many different things one can do.
Satchel Paige was one of the best fastball pitchers of all time, but as he aged he didn't pitch as often because he was in bed before the light went out from the light switch he had just shut off.
The old masters are still masters and always will be. |

Ronald Regan told jokes till the end? Huh?
Anyways, I think all the "last tour" and "last album" people need to relax. It's been the last tour since 1969. Studio albums (understandably) keep getting farther apart but so what? As for touring, 2007 is the 45th anniversary, sounds like a prime touring oopportunity to me. And finally, just relax and enjoy the present (and the past).
They say every band has to stop at some point. The Stones are the exception that prove the rule. |

i think it may well be the last time the boys work on a new studio album from scratch to finish like this. I do think there will be "new" studio releases from leftovers, unfinished trax, etc. That's the ol' "pension plan." But, I believe that A Bigger Bang's inspiration is "food for the road" - not because Mick & Keith have an over-arching desire to make a new studio record, per se. I think those days are long gone. |

they won't tour 2005-2008. the 50th anniversary on the other hand...
as far as albums, unless they decide to do what they did with Bridges and get to work on one soon after the tour ends (well, "soon" for their age) and we have another album in 2008, I don't think so. if this album doesn't get the ball rolling again, I expect they'll lose complete interest in writing/recording. if it takes them another 8 years to make the next album, this might as well be their last. either way I'm not holding out much hope, and having not even heard A Bigger Bang, I can't even say how much I want an album |

youre third paragraph answers your first one
Gaps between the last 3 albums - 5 years, 3 years, 8 years. At the current rate, they're likeluy to be all closer to 70 than 60 by the time they make their next record.
Add that trend to the various health problems within the band in the last couple of years and the reality kinda stares you in the face if you're being honest and realistic about it.
Quite obvious that in the 21st Century the Rolling Stones see themselves a live act much more than a studio act. They've admitted that themselves.
They also make a lot more money touring than from making records, which obviously is something that motivates them more than their 'art' of creating new music. |

Maybe the next album will be a collection of leftovers, with a couple of songs from this new sessions, a couple of the 2002 sessions and with 3-4 new recordings. Another Tattoo You and new tour in 2007 or 2008. |

It's really bad news, the same happened with Memory Hotel and no news since 1999. |

All good points, at any rate, I do hope it's the last studio album about Mick's d**k given his age ;-)
Anyway for all their good words, that album does sound like just an excuse to tour again without being labelled an oldies act for good. Don't get me wrong, I've listened to the horrible tapes of the Rotterdam 1975 sessions a few times too many (i.e. more than once) so anything new by the Stones sounds like Gimme Shelter, and I'll take it anytime, but I wish Mick took the lyrics a bit more seriously as it is a bit embarrassing to listen to that crap. |
