Topic: The Hold Steady opening at Slane? Return to archive
31st July 2007 09:58 PM
Mel Belli Their website (www.theholdsteady.com) lists an Aug. 18 gig at Slane Castle, so I'm assuming this is the case. If so, and if you're lucky enough to be going, show up early! The Hold Steady kicks ass.

UPDATE: Scratch that. The Stones are playing Slane Aug. 19. Too bad.

The frontman, Craig Finn, is from Minneapolis, but the band is out of Brooklyn. I think you'd love them. Their most recent album, "Boys and Girls in America," got quite a few comparisons to Bruce.

Gazza Frankie Gavin? Thats the guy who plays fiddle on "The Worst". He also guested at Ronnie's solo show that I saw in dublin in 2001.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping for Van the Man. Were the Charlatans the opener last year at Twick?

Gazza I think they were, yes. Didnt see them, though.

Apart from seeing the last song of Jet's two sets in Madrid & Lisbon, the only opening act I think I've managed to see on the 9 dates I've seen so far on this tour has been Kasabian in Nice.

Gazza,
your knowledge of the Stones side & session players is unparalleled

please let me know if you would be interested in contributing to a book I am publishing titled "The Rolling Stones At Their Greatest: The Andy Snitzer Years"

A couple of more popular bands were offered the date but since nothing has been announced yet they probably didn't take it.

Only because by sheer coincidence I happened to be listening to Voodoo Lounge on the bus home from work earlier

No...I'm trying to make sure my own epic coffee-table 600-page tome "Kent Smith - What Happened?" hits the stands first!

glencar Andy Snitzer's leaving really has seemed to hurt the band! Or is it the series of mini-strokes instead?

he is sorely missed. They havent even attempted to play "Terrifying" without him

these days all the Forty Licks newbies love Tim Reis. But us true vets can remember the golden years when Snitzer would shine during the horn arrangement for Sympathy on the No Security tour

sure, Reis has a flair for adding horn arrangements where they dont belong, but we all know that Snitzer was the true king and practically invented the needless horn arrangement.

Snitzer, Schmitzer! This is one fan who yearns for the glory days of the Arno Hecht and Crispin Cioe twin-attack that made the Steel Wheels shows so memorable.
