Wild Horses and Angie are both warhorse ballads IMO. I would prefer Beast Of Burden or Waiting On A Friend instead. |

I guess it is a war horse. BUt I think I have only heard it live once--Boston, opening night Lick tour (again, I think...), It is a beautiful song, and I have yet to tire of ever listening to it. I would like to hear it again live. Version on Stripped is the best, no?? |

I've just heard the thing too much. Its a great song, but a bit of a dirge (IMO) live. |

No it's not a warhorse. By definition, horses (songs) are what you go to war (concert) with. The Stones rarely perform WH, so it's not a warhorse. Sorry. Next question? |

I like the song, but heard it a bit too much live, I'd also prefer WOAF or LIB |

These songs are "officially" (ie, IMO) defined as 'warhorses', based on public popularity & recognition and the regularity that they are performed
Division One (played pretty much always and/or everybody knows them):
Satisfaction
Jumpin' Jack Flash
Sympathy For The Devil
Honky Tonk Women
Brown sugar
Tumbling Dice
Angie
It's Only Rock 'n' Roll
Miss You
Start Me Up
Division Two (played reasonably regularly and/or almost everyone knows them):
Paint it Black
Lets Spend The Night Together
Street Fighting Man
You Cant Always Get What You Want
Midnight Rambler
Gimme Shelter
At most Stones shows, you can expect to hear at least 8 of the songs in the first group and at least 3 in the second one |

thanks gazza - a very methodical and dare i say scientific response to my question
didn't realise that Paint it Black and Angie got so much stage time
lux - yes i enjoyed the version on stripped but lately (and this is what inspired my question) i have been giving Stereo Baby (live MSG '75) a real hammering and am loving the version on that - the way they turn change the acoustic studio approach into an all electric guitar arrangment is excellent and ronnies solos are so good - same thing for the version from LA '75 on "who went to church this sunday" |

they dont, actually. But I included them based also on public recognition as well as performance regularity.
theres a few warhorses that do get rotated in and out of the setlists from one tour to the next.
The only songs that always get played are Jumpin Jack Flash, HTW, Brown sugar and Tumbling Dice (surprisingly). Satisfaction would be just behind those 4 in terms of regular performances
Jumpin Jack Flash is the Stones song that has been played more times than any other. Then Honky Tonk Women, followed by Brown Sugar |

I certainly think HTW is in need of a rest. |

It'll get a rest after it opens the show.... |
