WILL MICK OR BILL DO HONOURS?
the Gloucestershire Echo
The town's Civic Society and the Brian Jones fan club hope Mick Jagger or Bill Wyman might do the honours.
The blue plaque is to go up at the late rock star's childhood home in Eldorado Road. The funding is now in place for the memorial.
Civic Society chairman John Henry said: "It's just a question of arranging a memorable date.
"We've got to sort out the wording of his plaque.
"We want to have a significant date and somebody significant to unveil it.
"We're satisfied that Eldorado Road is the obvious place.
"It would be wonderful if we could get another member of the Rolling Stones but that's something I haven't yet discussed with the fan club. That's more their cup of tea."
Owner of the house, Alison Duncan, said: "We're pleased. We'd like it to happen and sooner rather than later."
Mr Jones was born Lewis Brian Hopkin-Jones in the Park Nursing Home in Cheltenham in February 1942.
He lived in Hatherley Road and went to Dean Close School.
Later he attended Cheltenham Grammar School before leaving the town to travel Europe and set up the Rolling Stones.
He died in 1969 by drowning in the swimming pool at his Sussex home.

I think all of Brian's kids should do the honours. |
