Topic: May 20th was a just combination of rumor and specualtion......From Ian Return to archive

How about May 20th this and May 20th that. Well as we now know it didn't happen.....yet. Why do people believe that stuff. I could see if a publicist for the band stated such but it really goes to show that 1. none of us have a legit inside contact. and
2. Real insiders don't realease exact dates. The most they give is "soon" or at most they will give a month but not a specific date.
How many times can you hear "Well I know this guy who assisted on some of the soundboards for the Licks tour and he said The Stones are going into the studio on blah blah blah and the new stuff is great". Come on.
Anyway, I do think they are planning on going into the studio to start the sessions within a months time only because of what Don Was has said and Charlies publicist statements.
Also Charlie canceled his dates. These are the real reasons you can try and hone in on the time frame They will start to record not because of Internet Rumors or the line "Yeah my friend says".....
This is why I was so skeptical on the May 20th line.

caro Well I think everyone knew it was a combination of rumor and speculation. These boards are basically made to circulate news, and if someone here has a friend who has a friend who is an insider, then I'm grateful he shares the info. If it turns out to be wrong, so be it. Nobody forces you to believe what you read -- besides, if it's any possible, people usually say what their sources are. I, for one, trust the fans more than the publicists.

caro ...and for good measure, here's another rumor!

With thanks to Richard B from Keno's board :

"Many boards have been disappointed with the supposed May 20th date for the GROUP to get together but what we have failed to notice is that Charlie has been in the studio!!!!

The cancelation of dates was in regard to overdubbs, updating certain tracks both from the early 90's and songs still concidered "in the rough". The source is a London mate of mine that has seen Charlie in two seperate studios. I asked if this had anything to do with his Jazz outfit and said that other Stones employees, ie. sound and tape handeler(?)(archivist) have been there as well. He has not heard any songs as there is a gate at the front door so to speak - it is very low key. I asked if he knew of the others entering studios ect. and he said not to his knowledge but that Ronnie may be, if not already, doing/done the same thing. He seems to think this is prep. for when they do get together. He asked Michael (?) in the organization if there were to be more visits and he said not in this studio after this week through May 27th was the last day booked. He couldn't get any other info. "

I am sure it is for his Jazz CD. Mick or Keith would surely be there to make sure all goes well if he was actually over-dubbing for the Stones. Good stuff though

Spanky I got to know Niall Slevin - the band's sound crew chief, in Sydney last year, he is a really nice fellow. He's a close friend of my guitar teacher. The sound engineer Rory McGrath also knows my teacher - i met him but he wasn't too friendly, he probably thought i wanted something like a backstage pass, which wasn't the case - i had a message to pass on to both blokes from my guitar teacher who had arranged to meet them in Melbourne. Fortunately Niall was cool enough to come outside the Enmore theatre & have a chat with met.
To cut a long story short, I will ask my guitar teacher if he has heard from either of these 2 guys & i will let you all know if he has any news.

the fact is, Ian,if people didnt post rumours then we'd have very little to read most of the time - especially in between tours. You'll find out that in quite a few instances they turn out to be true and more often than not, the first place I've read about tour dates, album news and other breaking stories is on message boards such as this and a few others as opposed to some officially worded statement. In fact, if you were to list any ten "breaking" Stones stories in the last few years that you want to name, I'll guarantee you that about 8 or 9 of them were on the internet "unofficially" BEFORE some publicist announced it.

Obviously, yes, you're going to get some that turn out to be way off the mark, but thats not always down to using unreliable sources either - very often things that ARE planned are abandoned before they were officially announced anyway. I've seen some reputable people on this site and others put out information in good faith that has turned out to be absolutely inaccurate, yet other times they've provided info way in advance that has turned out to be right on the mark.
