chevysales jb... we must find a good place to toast the heat winning it all (oh yea!) and "da phinz" playing in their first super bowl since "a season to remember" 1984 as duante zach and company to lead us to the promised land!
and not to forget raising a glass to the fall run through the eastern states by the band that brings us here

Boca's venerable La Vieille Maison restaurant closing its doors

He's looking to open a smaller place somewhere in downtown Fort Lauderdale... yep smaller place but BIGGER rent!

BOCA RATON -- After three decades, the venerable La Vieille Maison restaurant is closing its doors.

May 31st will be the last day that diners can pull up to the 1920s Addison Mizner-style house at 770 E. Palmetto Park Road and find owner Leonce Picot ready to seat them.

"The value of the land has become such that I can't afford to have a restaurant there now," said Picot. "I'm better off selling the land than to run a restaurant."

Picot said several people have talked about buying the more than 6,000-square-foot restaurant over the years, but finally a broker approached him with a written offer.

"But I want to be sure that the restaurant has not been sold. It is in the process."

Picot, 74, said he is not retiring, but looking to open a smaller place somewhere in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

"But as we say, the fish isn't in the boat yet."

It has been more than 30 years since Picot and then partner Al Kocab opened for business, but even in recent years, the restaurant continued to garner honors.

"Leonce Picot helped create fine dining in Florida to where you have so many great restaurants today," said Mel Dick, vice president of Southern Wine and Spirts in Miami, who has known Picot since the late 1960s.

Picot started his restaurant career, fresh out of the University of Miami, at Fort Lauderdale's Mai-Kai. Through the years, he was also the proprietor of Fort Lauderdale's The Down Under and Casa Vecchia.

Service at La Vieille Maison was Old World and tuxedoed, but never imposing at the landmark. It specialized in fine French and continental fare served in eight dining rooms, all decorated in an elegant and comfortable mix of art and antiques.

Along with classic menu items and a new line of steaks, La Vieille Maison was known for its herb-roasted rack of lamb, Dover sole and roast duck with honey and herbs. But you'd also find sweetbreads as well a delicious rainbow trout.

It was ranked the best restaurant in Palm Beach County winner a few years ago and won numerous other prizes.

and yes excellent duck there!

joe's stone crap is always a winner in season.

and btw what dump mai kai has been since like 82 or so... i mean the tourists don't even go there anymore... well they still do get the foreign tourists. big scam there last year with a worker swiping credit cards for later use and boy from what i read they got a lot of later use!

A RUSHINGA man fatally assaulted his son on Saturday for allegedly eating
his mice.

Police spokesperson Inspector Andrew Phiri said the incident occurred at the
man's homestead in Rushinga when the enraged father, Gambia Katukaurimi (44)
who had been away from home discovered that his mice relish had been stolen
from the pot. Irked by the theft, Katukaurimi picked up a big stick and hit
his son, Shadreck Silas (10), twice on the head. "The father left some mice
in a pot while he visited a friend's homestead and during his absence, the
son ate them. "When he returned, the deceased denied having eaten the mice
and this angered the father who took a stick and struck him twice on the
head and he later died. The accused was arrested and will soon appear in
court. The body was taken to Mt Darwin Hospital mortuary," said Inspector
Phiri.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said he was privately approached about his interest in becoming the NFL's next commissioner.

Bush said Tuesday the issue was discussed at a recent meeting with Patrick Rooney Sr., according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Rooney's brother is Dan Rooney, owner of Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers and co-chair of the search committee looking to replace the retiring Paul Tagliabue.

"I met with Mr. Rooney and I said, 'I'm doing my job until I'm finished and then I'm going to consider other things,"' Bush told the newspaper.

Bush has said he will not run for president in 2008. His final term as governor ends in January, although he doesn't believe NFL officials will hold the position open until then.

Tagliabue, who has been commissioner since 1989, announced in March his decision to retire. Although he originally set a July 31 deadline to be out of the job, he has indicated his willingness to stay on longer.

Plummer has different version of crash

By The Denver Post
DenverPost.com

Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer said today his car was bumped from behind in an alleged road rage incident last month.

At a news conference at Dove Valley, Plummer said he was on his way to a charity event for the Jake Plummer Foundation when the accident occurred on April 20 in Englewood.

Plummer was issued a summons by Englewood police for intent to injure or destroy property, after the incident was reported as a hit-and-run, investigator John Hoehle said.

The purported victim of the incident - identified by Fox 31 News as Doug Stone - told officers he had been involved in a road rage incident with the driver of a gray Honda van.

When the van stopped at a red light, the driver got out and kicked the front of Stone's truck. The man then got back into the Honda, put it in reverse and hit the front of Stone's vehicle causing minor damage, then left the scene, Hoehler said.

"When he backed into my truck, he broke my license-plate frame," Stone told Fox 31.

Stone said he saw the gray Honda cut off three other drivers before he was cut off.

"He pulled in front of me," Stone said. "I wasn't very polite. I did honk my horn quite a bit."

Stone also said, "He actually kicked the front of the truck and said, 'Stay off my tail.' He proceeded to get back into his van, he put it in reverse and backed right into the bumper and actually pushed there for 10 seconds and then took off."

A witness - identified by Fox 31 as Marjorie Casse - got the license-plate number of the van and reported it to police, he said.

"I was just very appalled," Casse told the station. "I couldn't believe what I saw."

The plate was listed to Jason "Jake" Plummer of Cherry Hills Village.

"Jake Plummer?" Stone said. "Yeah, it would surprise me. Was it Jake Plummer?"

Casse said, "Being who he is, he should really be a role model, and I'm really shocked that he would do such a thing."

Hoehler said Plummer couldn't be contacted initially, but was contacted at his home Friday.

"Mr. Plummer's recollection of the incident was not as reported by the victim and independent witness," Hoehler said.

When contacted by police, Plummer said he was involved in a rear-end crash.

"He went out and looked and didn't see any damage so he didn't report it," Hoehler said.

After he left the scene he told investigators he changed his mind and called 911 to report the accident.

... who will ron mexico blame this year for his failures? which reciever? which coach?
24th May 2006 04:21 PM
Jumping Jack I'd send you to Emeril's Miami, but their Chef de Cuisine Brian Murry just moved up here.

The Falcons need to find an Offensive Coordinator and if that doesn't work a Head Coach who knows he has to throw to the wide receivers. It is hard to win with only 8 people on offense.

it's a nice concept..NY Prime is not a strip club..just a great place in Boca...better,imo, than Peter Lugars!!!!
24th May 2006 04:50 PM
Saint Sway Lugars is great. But not the best. Even Wolfgangs (opened by his former maitré de) is better.

my friends are considering opening a Dylan Prime in South Beach. Great steak and they always draw a ton of young hotties. I dont know how they do it. Geniuses.
