As you, my fellow brothers and sisters know me since May 2002, I don't give a fuck for those new "bands". This new metal stuff is nothing but SHIT for me...They shouldn't have guts enough to use the word "METAL" to designate themselves.
I've never listened to bands like Strokes, Hives, Vines, etc......I mean, nothing more than their first debut hits. Lately, the only thing that really made me rising my fist was Audioslave with "Show Me How to Live", but I didn't check nothing more than that.
But now, now the thing is different my friends, now something got me by the neck, shook me and said: "Flashy, wake up man, stop living from the past, from the giants of the past....Rock isn't dead man".
And people, I must tell you, nothing has had the power to impress me like them. Probably, just reading these humble words, you wouldn't get surprised like I am now. So, please, give a try to your ears. I promise, you won't regret.
Being completely in love for old stuff, the classic guys, the real motherfuckers like Who, Cream, Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Thin Lizzy, Bad Company, Lynard Skynard, Rainbow, Jeff Beck Group, Ronnie James Dio, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Kiss, Zeppelin (just a little bit), Buddy Guy, B.B., Stevie Ray Vaughan, and so forth, as you can see, I wouldn't say my taste for music is bad and weak, so, believe me, this Brit guys are fuckin' great, they are masters.... and I bloody hope they last long here on earth.
I still didn't listen to everything they recorded, but the first impression is strong. He (the main guy) even wears Mick's style of clothes....wow, I love that stuff..... not to mention the gorgeous sound he makes with his Gibson. I'd say he is a blend of Jagger/Richards/Peter Frampton (when playing with Humble Pie)/Robert Plant/Jimmy Page/......
One day, maybe I could be wrong, but my first impression has been told here in this thread. So, thank you for your attention.
Sorry for something! I'm excited!
I need a pie.....
Joey taught me everything......

I'm with you, JJF , but some Stones' fans can be remarkably narrow-minded when it comes to bands whose heroes from the '70s.

Me too. The first time I heard them....Hated 'em! ...but they get inside your head and stay there. I too love the old rocker style they seem to have revived, and yes, he is definitely a Frampton reincarnate! I think it's brilliant to revive this look and sound and according to record sales, so do this generation. They bring fun and showmanship back to the concert stage and there's nothing wrong with that! I know alot of our regulars can't stand them, but check out their website, watch a couple of videos and open your mind.... to a good time. |

Yeah, the ol' style....this is everything.... my focus is all about it! I don't know, that's my approach and I wasn't able to see something like that 'till their appearance.
Come on guys, I'm expecting more "reviews".....Share your ideas with me! |

I don't like 'em at all, but I'm glad people are getting their kicks to some new licks.
Enjoy!

I'm one from the new crowd of things, but this band i just cannot stomach....the lead singers voice is just screeching, and not in a good way. I just find them very hokey. They remind so much of 'Spinal Tap', which was meant to be a joke. I don't know if this bands meant to be a joke. I think it's nice that a band is paying homage to their heroes from the 70's, but in the process they're making that music look incredibly lame. Yes, there was some lame rock music from the 70's, but do we really need to be reminded of that bad music now, in the year 2004. |

The guys hair - reminds me of Angus and david lee Roth when they were still trying to convince themselves they had a full head of hair -the music. I'm about to listen to it....be right back. |

Yeah I liked the Darkness.
Saw them at Leeds festival last year - it was summer I was loaded and enjoyed the show, they got everybody going and played good rock music.
The fact that their songs are so instant is a pro for their popularity but it pissed me off.
Are they serious in the way they act? Yes and no...the body suits are a laugh - the affected high voice is not.
I think its a case of I was so shocked at seeing them I dug them.
But essentially it comes down to whether one likes Queen or not. I quite destest Queen (sorry Hanalee! ) and thus the Darkness don't really appeal anymore. |

I too despise Queen. |

I'll never get tired of saying that: Queen were a misunderstood band. Let me put it this way, there are two types of Queen: Era 1, from their start down to 1979 and Era 2, from 1979 onwards - another Era almost started happening in 1991 but had no time.
So the first era is full of wonderful melodies, incredibly clever yet simple and full of emotion guitar solos, amazing drum work, a great bassline, poetry-like lyrics and kick-ass vocals.
Era 2 is full of pop hits. End of story.
But they WERE indeed a great band, and I think it goes beyond personal opinions. Those guys' musicianship was in many ways unparalleled. Even if I hated them, I'd still stand for this (does this even make sense? )
Having said all that, having a new band that can actually make you *care* enough to listen to their whole damn record and not just the "hit", and being a band that incorporates all the Queen "style" with so many other great influences and manages to produce something that sounds crazily fresh; now that I admire and respect. As said, it's nice to find new acts that can really spark a flame - guys that are my age (ok, a bit older ) for a change
I can't wait to see those guys live and I'm sure I'll add another addiction and another reason to save up cash |

I also fervently despise:
the Eagles
Elton John

not to piss in anyone's Corn Flakes, but I think The Darkness belong on the "We Overrated and Overhyped" list (along with the Strokes and the Vines). None of those bands are that good - either on record or live on stage...

I also despise Elton, Billy Joel and Rush.
I dislike the Who, primarily because they went to such great lengths to destroy their own legacy.

I saw them last month. The music kinda sucked but it was still a good show. I have seen better bands do much worse. I really liked openers the Wildhearts which was about half the reason I decided to go. |
