(5/10/02, 6 p.m. ET) -- The Pretenders have been confirmed as the opening act for the first show of the Rolling Stones World Tour, which is scheduled for September 5 at CMGI Field in Boston.
Although other opening acts have yet to be officially announced, Stones frontman Mick Jagger told reporters that Sheryl Crow, No Doubt, Jonny Lang, and Buddy Guy have been tapped by the band to open other dates on the tour.
The Stones have a long history of picking interesting opening acts. Support acts on the band's tours over the last 25 years have included Prince, Guns N' Roses, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Advance tickets to the Stones tour dates were made available through the getAccess program, a joint venture between the tour's promoters, Clear Channel, and the Sam Goody retail chain. Fans who paid $60 to access the special site got little satisfaction when it crashed on Wednesday (May 8) due to heavy traffic, the Los Angeles Times reported.
