Just wanted to say how good of a studio l.p. "A Bigger Bang" is. I also love the tracks that Keith Richards sings lead vocals on and that it is great that he does sing lead on not just one but two songs! It's great that this is such a long l.p. as well! Does anyone know how well this has sold so far worldwide? |

Yeah they definetly put a lot of time and effort in it. I can't say it's musically better then for example Undercover but they really worked on this one. |

Yes it's good. And every time some long-lasting band/artist releases their recent newest album, ABB sounds even better than it previously did.
It's just got too much going against it-- the Stones ages, their back catalogue, the fans' individual and unclear expectations, the fact that as far as the public music opinion is concerned, they've been 'over' since 1981, etc, etc, etc... |

To all the people that, shall we say,are less than impressed with A Bigger Bang,Consider this:The Rolling Stones,as we know, have made very few studio albums in the last decade and a half. Why do we have to pick it apart the way we do?Can't we just be glad that they gave us one more?I mean, come on!This album seems more like the Stones than Bridges or Voodoo Lounge. So what if it doesn't have a song like Brown Sugar......They've already done that song, so theres no need in doing it again. To me its great to have new music from the Stones.I'm going to love any album that has Sweet Neo-con on it.I can't think of anyone better to give Bush a musical bicth-slap the the Stones.
The same thing applies to the set list whiners.Do you really want to go to a concert and not hear Satisfaction?I don't.Its like no one is ever really content.
Just be glad that they still care enough to make new music.
I know I'm glad they do. |

Brilliant posts! ABB has some great stuff on it & it's one of the only recent ones w/o any clunkers on it. Best since SG. |

I still like the album. |

Its good - they're doing what they should be at their age; making ok adult contemporary rock/pop. More innovative than Macca's last album. LMDRS is growing on me. |

If anything, both Chaos & Creation and A Bigger Bang are completely unoriginal. (At least Paul, like Bowie, has begun to write from an old man's point of view.)
I'm not putting them down (and I prefer ABB), but I don't "see" the innovation.

fair enough, and for the most part ur right, but listen to LIND, RFD and LMDRS; they're quite innovative - I also like the Ipod friendly production. |

>Why do we have to pick it apart the way we do?<
Well, I can't speak for anyone else...but I pick it apart because I KNOW THAT THE ROLLING STONES ARE CAPABLE OF MUCH BETTER. Yes even now at their age, they are still a better band than ABB shows, and you'll never convince me otherwise.
To those of you who think this is the best record since Tattoo You...I'm happy for you. I, however, do not live in a fantasy world. ABB is filled with weak songs. There is not one single song on ABB that would be anything but filler material on any studio album pre-Steel Wheels.
>Can't we just be glad that they gave us one more?<
Sure...if it was something that I'm gonna listen to every now and then. Otherwise, it's nothing more than a waste of time and plastic. I haven't listened to ABB all the way through since a couple of weeks since it was released...and I haven't even had it in the CD player this year. Worse yet...I can't imagine any reason why I would ever put it in my CD player again...ever.
I've given it many many many chances. In the weeks following it's release, I tried to let it grow on me. But I just kept hitting the skip button more and more frequently. I waited 8 years for that album...no one wanted to love that thing more than me. But after the 3rd time I heard it...I knew it wasn't good. And that really made me sad.
I liken ABB to Sea Monkeys. Remember back when you were a kid, in the comic books, they had those adds for Sea Monkeys? There was a King and a Queen, and little baby Sea Monkey children frolicking and playing around the castle? Remember that? I remember it. I wanted those Sea Monkey's soooooo bad. So I saved up my nickels and dimes until I had enough to send away for them. I waited and waited for them to come. I checked the mailbox every day. The anticipation that I felt was nearly indescribable. It seemed to take forever, but I kept waiting, just knowing how great it was gonna be to have Sea Monkeys. I remember the excitement of the day that my Sea Monkeys finally arrived. My mom helped me get everything ready. I was so excited I thought my head was gonna explode. Then came the moment of truth...and the truth was that they weren't Sea Monkeys...they were tiny little brine shrimp. There was no King, no Queen, no Sea Monkey children frolicking, no laughing smiling creatures...just little tiny speck of pink that don't do much of anything. And the next morning they were all dead. And I was sad. And disappointed. And I could never look at those Sea Monkey ads again without getting a twinge of disappointment...and even a little anger. I was duped, and I didn't like it.
Well that's what ABB was like for me too. I waited and waited for that new record. I just knew it was gonna be so great...and all the critics were saying how raw and "back to their roots" this album was. And then the day finally came to go buy it and play it...oh man, I was so jacked up. I even took the day off work so I could be at the store the minute the doors opened, and I'd have the house to myself so I could really crank it up. Then when I got home and played it...well, I tried to put a good face on it. I figured, ahhh it'll grow on me. But with every play I gave to ABB...the LESS I liked it. And my heart sank. It wasn't supposed to be that way, you know? It was supposed to be great and fun and frolicking and ROCK AND ROLL...but it's not. ABB is just brine shrimp...adult contemporary pop music. And I don't like adult contemporary pop music, or brine shrimp.
But for all of you folks that dig it...I'm happy for you, and I'm jealous. You got Sea Monkeys...I just got brine shrimp. And I'd much rather have the Sea Monkeys. |

I also want to say that I thought it was cool how it was such a long studio l.p. and I like the more organic sound in production than maybe some other things in the past even thought there is nothing wrong with regular pop stuff. It was probably a good thing that there wasn't any rapping on it. How much rapping has been on past studio l.p.s with the Stones, eh? Was it just that one song from "Bridges To Babylon"? I thought that was cool though. I also think there are very much Led Zeppelin-esque qualities to this release as well in terms of how hard some of it is compared to maybe some earlier Stones material. This just makes me wonder why in the world all sorts of more tracks do not get played on the radio in the sense of how modern it sounds.
Do you all know how many short promotional films (music videos) have been made so far for this release? Do you all know if any more will be made or if any were made that weren't released? Also do you all have any idea how many copies it has sold total internationally at this point? Thanks for letting me know about this stuff! Rock on! |

You are not living in a fantasy world? And someone who likes ABB does? It only proofs, besides your plain arrogance, your musical taste is very poor. Dirty Work and Undercover are the 2 weakest albums the Stones ever made. Any of the songs on these two albums wouldn't have made it to ABB with the exception of Undercover of the night. I think that rusty armour of yours has damaged your brain. Or maybe you have fallen from a coconut tree. And no, the Stones aren't capable of much better. If you think they can do better YOU are the one who is living in a fantasy world.

ABB???
Yeah, I'm still listening to it. It's their best album since Tattoo You.
Been listening to a lot of Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Van Morrison, Who, Santanta, White Stripes, Allman Brothers, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Wilco, Replacements, Dylan (he put on a great show over the weekend) lately but, when I give the STONES a spin, ABB is one of the CD's I'm looking for.
It's been 8 months since it's release AND I LIKE IT.

Agreed Soldatti - when it's all said and done I think B2B will be recognized as their best post-TY album. |
