Stones fans head down for satisfaction
By DARYL GOH
KUALA LUMPUR: Its only rock n roll but how the world needs more of it now. Hordes of Malaysian rock fans will be crossing the causeway to Singapore to catch legendary rockers the Rolling Stones in two concerts at the islands National Indoor Stadium tomorrow and Wednesday.
The Southeast Asian leg of the Rolling Stones massive Licks World Tour starts in Singapore. The island nation is a key destination on a tour that takes the band to top Asian cities including Hong Kong, Bangkok, Beijing and Mumbai.
If you want some rock n roll satisfaction, then the Rolling Stones is the only band that matters, said Nazmin Nazin, an outlet manager for a music store here.
Nazmin, 31, is planning a road trip tomorrow and he intends to take in both concerts in Singapore if he can obtain tickets for Wednesdays show.

Nazmin: Had previously caught the legendary band six times during his student days in the United States.
The hardcore Rolling Stones fan had previously caught the legendary band six times during his student days in the United States. He recalled that nothing came close to the level of showmanship that the Rolling Stones were renowned for after all these years.
Singapore will be my seventh time (and possibly eighth time) watching Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Its going to be a blast because no matter how old these guys are, they still rock.
Theyve re-written the rock history book so many times. So heres a chance to take home a real piece of rock n roll history.
Bill Hung, 52, a structural engineer, is also making a journey down to Singapore with a couple of friends.
Yes, there is the worry of war and the flu virus, but its the Rolling Stones in concert! Its the greatest rock n roll band in the world that we are talking about here. If they are this playing close to Malaysia, I dont see why we shouldnt be there to watch them live.
Doubts on concert cancellations have also been dispelled since the band is keen to undertake shows in Asia.
Colleen Ironside, from Live Ltd, the bands regional tour promoters assured Malaysian fans that the Rolling Stones are committed to the Licks tour in this region and all shows will go on as scheduled.
Rolling Stones are very excited about arriving in Singapore tonight to commence their first ever Asian tour, said Ironside when contacted in Hong Kong.
Tickets for the Rolling Stones shows, priced at S$500 (RM1, 050), S$351 (RM737), S$226 (RM474), S$151 (RM317), S$100 (RM210), can be purchased through www.sistic.com.sg or by phone 02-6348 5555. |
