i am going out on a limb here and say...i think at least 70-80% of the worlds population enjoys him in one form or another...weather it be from his stage performances or a particular song. i for one hardly tire of...you can't always get what you want.
when i meet people in a bar or wherever and the subject of the stones comes up..sometimes people are like...they suck. i used to take the time to try and sway them, but now i don't waste my breath.
i sometimes think...if people don't like him, even just a little bit, they are probably just jealous.
i always thought he was the best...but he ain't for everybody.

For sure, since 1964, that's a long time, & he's really always had his head together, never let himself go with drugs & booze, a very intelligent guy, & smart business wise too, I wonder if The Stones would have last without him, but then again The Stones wouldn't be The Stones without him. |

He's also the best-aging rock star. |

haha, well, he's definetely subjectively considered to be the best! I wouldnt say he's aged well at all, infact I think he's wrinkly and old and rather gross now. Charlie Watts has aged wonderfully, as has Todd Rundgren, Joe Perry and John Fogerty. But Mick?? no way. |

I'm talking about his consistent performance and great overall great health, rather than the wrinkles on his face. Plus, Perry is only 58 compared to Mick's 64 and you never know how much work these guys have had done on them (Mick included). |

Its probably actually more accurate to say that 70% of the words population has never heard of him, when you consider the fact the band are unknown in Africa and in most of Asia, including China.... |

How do you arrive at that conclusion?
So you reckon something like 5 to 5.5 BILLION people in the world have not only heard of Mick Jagger but are actually FANS to some degree?
The Stones are absolutely unknown in China (which accounts for about 20% of the world's population), in most of the rest of Asia, in most of Africa, large parts of South America and in cultures around the world that have little concept of or insight into western culture.
When you consider that the biggest selling album of all time has shifted some 50 million copies or so, that shows how relatively small a cultural impact any individual pop or rock act can have worldwide.

I found that the Stones were quite popular in Indonesia when I was there 20 years ago. I would see large grafitti of "Jagger Stones" with the tongue logo painted on walls in Sumatra.
I would agree that Mick is the greatest rock star, with Keith as the greatest rock'n'roller. |

Jagger played Indonesia (Jakarta) as a solo act in 1987, which may have something to do with that
Do you think that would be the same now, though? Many of those countries have changed and the Stones dont exactly still have the impact on younger people as they would have a couple of decades ago.

Why is that? They played in Shanghai and it looked like the place was packed. |

er..yeah, but it was full of tourists and ex-pats!
Chinese people couldnt afford those ticket prices (several months salary) and it was reported at the time that the Stones music is pretty much absolutely unknown in China.

Interesting that the Stones show there was filmed for future broadcast on Chinese TV (obviously this was going to be their way of making their music accessible to the 'real' locals who couldnt afford to go and see them) but it doesnt seme to have ever been shown.

I'm kinda lost, what is the greatest rock star exactly... I think of shitty people with big egos, who lose touch with their audience... so, in that sense I agree! |
