Robert Adler, who died Thursday at the age of 93, was the co-inventor of the remote control, the device that has bedeviled, edified and otherwise sustained a grateful nation of couch potatoes ever since its introduction. Along with inventor and fellow engineer Eugene Polley, Adler helped bring the first commercially successful wireless TV remote — the Zenith Space Command — to market in 1956. |

I'm old enough to remember the first remote which had a cord running to your tv from a box...we'd trip on the damn thing all the time...The orginal remote however was my little sister!...lmao |

Probably, in the US, the brand name became the accepted common name, in this case, it's a cotton ear swab, one maker called them Q-tips, and everyone calls them that regardless of the maker... |
