JACKSON'S THRILLER VIDEO VOTED ALL-TIME BEST
MICHAEL JACKSON's classic THRILLER video has beaten QUEEN and MADONNA to be crowned the best music promo of all time.
The 1983 horror video - in which the superstar morphs into a werewolf and a zombie - scored more votes than rock group Queen's BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, in fourth, and Madonna's controversial LIKE A PRAYER, in fifth, to top the poll of viewers of British TV network CHANNEL 4.
Animated videos for PETER GABRIEL's 1987 hit SLEDGEHAMMER and Norwegian band A-HA's 1985 tune TAKE ON ME landed second and third places respectively.
Directed by AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON film-maker JOHN LANDIS, Jackson's popular promo was released as a short film and helped his album of the same name to sell more than 60 million copies worldwide.
The greatest pop videos of all-time are:
1. MICHAEL JACKSON - THRILLER
2. PETER GABRIEL - SLEDGEHAMMER
3. A-HA - TAKE ON ME
4. QUEEN - BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY
5. MADONNA - LIKE A PRAYER
6. ROBBIE WILLIAMS - ROCK DJ
7. MICHAEL JACKSON - BILLIE JEAN
8. THE VERVE - BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY
9. MADONNA - VOGUE
10. NIRVANA - SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT.

Too bad Alice Cooper wasn't penning those goofy but extremely enjoyable "Welcome to my nightmare" type of songs in the mid eighties.

Lame, and predictable, list. Thriller i can understand, but Billie Jean?
Sledehammer, yep, fair enough.
Bohemian Rhapsody, yeah, everyone votes for that cause they all stupidly think its the "1st" video.
Nirvana, yes, i still dig that clip. You can just feel the tsunami of change come in when that song/clip came out.
But, here is my top 10.
1. Sabrina - boys, boys, boys
2. Sam Fox - Touch me
3. Danni Minogue - This is it
4. Kylie Minogue - Slow
5. Prodigy - smack my bitch up
6. Benny Benassi - Satisfaction
7. Boogie Pimps - Some one to love
8. Stones - Sex Drive
9. Warrant - Cherry Pie
10. Duran Duran - Girls on film
Now, that is a frigging list, me lovelies! |

Thriller sucks. It's the extended length which gets it to the top. Landis may be the worst successful director that H-wood ever produced. |

I will give him that.
I guess my favorite video of all time may be "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden in 1994. Very cool video.
And let us not forget about "She Was Hot"!

Top list Corgi!!
Sabrina was immense! Amazing assets!
Did you ever sea the Top of the Pops performance?!? You'll be able to download it somewhere online - brilliant!
I like Like a Rolling Stone video - love the way it keeps cutting to the stills and the stones playing in some warehouse somewhere! Cool |

the greatest music video ever made was Johnny Cash's "Hurt". For sheer raw, emotional impact it's unsurpassable and shows practically every other "video" for the meaningless, glorified cola commercials that they are.
The one made for Dylan's "Series of Dreams" is also pretty clever
Peter gabriel did quite a few good ones after "Sledgehammer", such as "Diggin' In The Dirt" and the one for the single immediately before it, I think it was called "Steam"
"Union City Blue" by Blondie is a great video. Nothing wild and imaginative, just spectacular to look at it.
but no act has made so many great promo videos as the Stones have done. |

I HAVE indeed seen that Sabrina performance. Can you imagine the weight of those things when she is jumping? The G forces. The "sploosh" sound those mammaries would make!
I saw a Johnny Cash clip not long ago, and it almost made ME cry. It seemed very recent, like, weeks before he croaked. It was mainly him sitting down, like reminicing, and intermingled with old footage of him. It was like the perfect epitaph, but i dont know the songs title. His version of rusty cage was pretty neat too. But, please, i hate Country. I watch the country channel on cable, only for the myriad of bare foot Southern Belles that very often appear.
This notes for you is great. Fucking up is Neil's best clip. ROcking in the free world his most cringe worthy. Oh, and Piece of Shit. What an odd clip that is! Oh, oh, oh, Change your mind. THAT is his best clip. So simple, but so powerful. Just shows what can be achieved with imagination and talent, as opposed to FX. The director uses simple lighting techniques to convey the power of the song, and man, it works!
Start me up and JJ flash are probably my fave Stones clips. Just for the performance element.
I must say that out of all the major acts from the past 20 or so years, John Mellencamp gets my vote for consistantly bad, corny, self indulgent and, most of all, cheap clips.
1/2 his clips only feature him dancing some where. He must have been one stingy bastard. And, fancy sacking Kenny Aronoff!!
"He sacked Kenny!"
"You bastard!" |
