Well, looking at him, he was kicking ass. Some of the lines he was playing were like Taylor with a kick of speed. But I couldn't hear a damn thing, just tantalizing hints of how amazingly amazing he was... covered over by a sickening wash of Chuck Leavell.
On (very short) plus side, Keith was incredible.
And yeah, I've already got the Faces in today! Long Player's in now, with a dose of A Nod's As Good As A Wink to follow.

I'm so happy for Woody! Wish I had HBO. I love the Faces too. I posted on Ian McLagan's thread here about the upcoming Faces Box Set that will be released on Warner Brothers this May/June 2003. You can visit Mac's site at http://www.macspages.com or see Mac's thread on this message board. Feel free to send me a PM with any questions.
There's also an official Faces website at:

I'm all about that Small Faces psychedelic song, Itchykoo Park. That was a hard find previously, I hope it will be on the new compilations?
Does Ronnie play on that song? (I know the band went through personnel and name changes).

There must be an unwritten rule with the band that Keith is ALWAYS to be louder in the mix than Ron....I thought Woodie was pretty good- if uninspired. "Knocking" showed he can still play well. But other numbers his solo's were almost nil. Keith played well, but I wish he wouldn't play lead throughout entire songs.i.e. "Whip". It's basically the same 5 licks over and over and over. Chuck was too loud as always, but being the "bandleader", I guess he's got the weight to make this happen. The Stones do sound a bit "loungie" when you hear Chuck plunking away behind every song. I'm sure through the mains it sounded better than the TV mix. Overall the band was tight though. Charlie is the BEST. |

Rob, Ronnie wasn't in the band when IP was released. Neither was Rod. Steve Marriott (later of Humble Pie with Peter Frampton) was singer in the Small Faces. After the taller Wood and Stewart joined, the name became the Faces (or Faces). |

Ronnie wasn't terrible - but he wasn't too good. He made some kinda fuckup in all th solos, but on the upside I felt very reassured by how much Keith was able to stand out front - he was the best he's been in a while, that show really kicked ass. The mix kinda sucked though - can't wait to hear it on DVD |

Hi Rob,
A lot of people get confused between the Small Faces & Faces - especially in the US. As mentioned in the earlier post: The Small Faces (1965-69) were Steve Marriott (Humble Pie), Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan, and Kenney Jones. The Faces (1970-1975) were Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan, and Kenney Jones. When Steve quit the Small Faces, the remaining three joined up with Ronnie Wood at first. For a brief period, they formed Quiet Melon with Woody and his brother, Art. Later, Kenney Jones asked Rod to join and the Faces were formed. You can read more about the history and the music on http://www.the-faces.com/ and Mac's official site at http://www.macspages.com
They're working on a compilation of all the Small Faces Decca and Immediate recordings (which will include Itchycoo Park). The Faces Box set, 'Five Guys Walk Into A Bar...' will be released May/June 2003 and include all studio tracks as well as live, previously unreleased, and basically everything but the kitchen sink! I posted an Ian McLagan thread on this forum for more info/updates. You can also send me a PM with any questions.
