besides the ones he sang, what are some other songs keith wrote the lyrics to? or at least a significant amount of them anyway. ruby tuesday comes to mind (unless that was that brian) |

no "ruby tuesday"is keith's. |

And Keith wrote Gimme Shelter, of course. |

He's written every ballad since 1983. |

Out of Tears it's all Mick
Already Over Me, New Faces, Blinded by Rainbows, Blinded ny Love are originally Mick's idea with some of Keith's touch on guitar..in fact Blinded by Rainbows was written at the time of Wandering Spirit but left out by Mick because he thought it would suit better for a the next Stones record |

Wild Horses (everything except the verse lyrics)
Satisfaction (the riff and refrain in his sleep)
Flip the Switch (I remember reading he wrote the lyrics and I presume the music too)
You Got Me Rocking (???)
Beast Of Burden (I remember hearing this was mainly a Keith song) |

I had heard that Ruby Tuesday was actually a collaboration between Keith & Brian. Comments, anyone? |

Yeah, I heard this. Marrianne Faithful says Brian started to play the flute melody in the studio (his idea of a cross between an English medieval folk song and delta blues) and then Keith began to collaborate on the song with him. Keith ended up writing all the lyrics and arranged it too and they both took care with the song during mixing. Brian apparently was peeved when it was eventually credited Jagger/Richards without him when Jagger had little to do with the song. |

sorry to confuse....about ruby tuesday, marianne faithfull says keith wrote it. i had assumed "it" was everything, but i do think the lyrics are all keith's (read it in sandford's book)and marianne f. says "only the song writer can tell about whom the song is written". in sandford's book we learn that ruby is really keith's first girlfriend, linda keith. he was upset because linda never stuck around very long, or when he needed her to be there. that would fit with the lyrics.
maybe brian did contribute to the musical stuff.
ps. i don't think we should catagorise keith as "the ballad guy". |

SAL-we definitely agree on the ballads issue. It was Keef who wrote most of the ROCKERS over time as well. He has a varied menu. And that's a good thing! |

oh for cryin' out loud, without the presence of keith, there would be nothin'.....no ballads, no rockers, no reggae, no nothin'!!!!!! |

yes, the timeisonourside sight is a great place to go for a track by track look at the stones catelog. i believe it is on that sight that i read a quote from mick where he says something about how the words and music to "ruby tuesday" are very pretty, but that he wrote neither of them. im curious about exile since thats generally considered "the" keith album. theres got to be a few songs on there other than "happy" that he wrote lyrics to. |

according to sanchez keith wrote "casino boogie" using the Burroughs "cut - up " method - (once used by Bowie)however instead of using the rather pesdetrian method of cutting up the lyrics with scissors he pinned the lyric sheet to a fence (or similiar) then blasted it with a shotgun - the words that survived the blast became the lyrics for the song
as i've said before it sounds (to me) like the sort of crazy thing anita would come up with |

That "Anita, I need ya" thing re Angie is total BS invented by Nick Kent. Mick probably wrote the words to that song. Don't know about the title. But I think Nick Kent is full of it. He was on so many drugs he didn't know what he was seeing or writing about. |

Oh, and "Neighbors." That's supposedly a Mick song. He wrote it about Keith and his landlord problems in that era. He writes songs from Keith's point of view sometimes ("Dead Flowers," for example). JJF is also a Mick lyric, for the most part. |

"Neighbors" is just a sped-up "Sent It To Me." |

It's got its charms. Maybe IG isn't all that but when I listen to it I get very relaxed. Never play it whilst driving. |

Carving up songs credits seems to me to be a Beatles thing.
Jagger/Richards is just fine with me. |
