midnightmagic After listening for 22 years I found a new jewel of a song.
Written in 72 November and December never released. Anybody know the skinny on this one?

Thanks

Make It Funky As far as I know, it was a leftover from the Goats Head Soup sessions in Jamaica. "I think I need a blood transfusion" didnt' quite make the record... but yeah, what a great song eh? I think had they cleaned it up sound wise, it would've been a solid release. Great tune. Good guitar sound.

cheers.

midnightmagic "I think I need a blood transfusion"

what a great line, the whole song is at a different level. They should of used it.

Bloozehound there's some funky cowbell action on that tune

Jumping Jack Better than a few that did make the GHS cut, IMHO.

crb69 Also known as "Save Me". Excellent groove. A true gem in the treasures of boots to be found by dedicated Stones fans. I turned my nephew on to the boys last night. I showed him some of the '68 Circus DVD, Out of Control & Waiting on a Friend from the Bridges DVD (along with the cool cosmic intro.), Honky Tonk Women with Sheryl Crow from the 4 Flix MSG show (I knew he would dig the cartoon girl) and some of Let's Spend the night together...He was impressed to say the least. It's funny how a 27 year old lad who used to play the sax years ago now listens to rap along with hardcore metal and never got into ROCK N' ROLL music???? Today's youth...?

luxury1 One of my all-time favs as well. What a groove, and yeah, those crunchy guitars. I must drop Mick a line bout that one..........

Zack I think the title is actually "Criss Cross Mind," and that it was released in Japan as the part of the soundtrack to something or other.
January 10th, 2005 05:39 AM
Gazza The correct title is indeed "Criss Cross Mind" ("Criss Cross Man" simply makes no sense when you read or listen to the lyrics)

I've never heard of it being officially released in any form, Zack. News to me. Maybe you can tell us more.
January 10th, 2005 05:49 AM
Zack Shit, I can't. I forget where I read that. All I can remember reading was that it was in a movie, not on vinyl.

Another interesting observation made in a current thread elsewhere was that the "guess I need a blood transfusion" sort of made the song unreleasable given Keith's widely report medical appointments in Switzerland in the day. It would have sort of confirmed the scuttlebut as true I suppose.

Doh! This was pointed out in this very thread, not elsewhere. Carry on.

gimmekeef I too love the groove on this tune. Some of the parts remind though alot of It's Only R&R........

Jaxx i've got 2 versions of this tune on a boot called "acetates". there's a seven second difference between them and the first version (track 2 on the cd) has more percussion and that distinct cowbell. i have seen it called criss cross, criss cross man, criss cross mind and save me. this is one of my all time favorite stones tunes even tho it was never released--i think its a GHS outtake along w/drift away.
January 10th, 2005 02:17 PM
glencar Jaxx? Zat you?
January 10th, 2005 02:18 PM
Jaxx yes. i've awakened from "the dead"
January 10th, 2005 02:20 PM
glencar Welcome back. It'll be nice after the Stones disband & put all that "unreleased" stuff into a big boxed set. Let Wyman do the liner notes.
January 10th, 2005 02:22 PM
Jaxx thanks! i agree. call me crazy, but i love the outtakes. maybe its because all the "hot rocks" are over played

Fiji Joe Well allow me to break rank here and say I don't like it...although it's better than "Can you hear the music" which did make the goat's head cut...Maybe I've just heard the song too much...I would prefer a re-working of "Gomper" with Daryl Jones on bass...you hear me Mick?...Can you find a way to work that on the new album?

thanks for the link. i hope to see u2 this year. last i saw them was at red rocks when they filmed the video "under a blood red sky". they were young, eager and on the cusp of stardom then. i wonder how much they've changed since then.

gomper with daryl jones? surely you jest! don't get me wrong, i think daryl is a great bass guitar player. he has fabulous rhythm. however, wyman gives that bass personality. like phil lesh, wyman goes beyond rhythm and finds a musical voice for his instrument. a reworking of gomper would be a disappointment, imo
