Ronnie's solo work on CYHMK on the MSG show on FF. Better or worse than Taylor's studioversion. I think it's better.

Wood's amazing lately? Wot? He started out quite good in the US (i.e. sober), but arrived wrecked in Europe. The ppor guy can't play a single straight anymore without geting out of tune!

No comparison. MT's solo on the album and his live versions of this are sublime. Ronnie's embarrassing attempts to emulate the master's solo are shameful. Ronnie is good at some things these days - little fills here and there and the occassional stab at a slide solo (ADTL, LIV) - but he can't now (nor could he ever really) play a coherent, decent lead solo... |

Woodies version on the Atlanta boot is great as is Tower.
Comparing any studio version to a live version is wrong

AMEN. And though I agree that Taylor's studio cut shouldn't be compared to Woody's live version, anyone that has heard Taylor play it live will no doubt hear an amazing difference. With few exceptions, Woody always hacks up the solo, stopping in the middle of notes instead of letting them ring out, and playing way off key in spots.
No comparison is exactly right. |

Mathijs:
I assume you're not suggesting or implying that RW is off the wagon - I've heard or seen nothing that substantiates that claim - in fact, it has been refuted by RW as recently as the Lauer interview a couple of months ago... |

Ronnie just hasnt got the fluid chops that Taylor had. He never did. Thats one reason why he was chosen. They didnt want the whole "LEAD" guitar and "Rhythm" guitar seperation idea. "Ancient art of weaving". I think Ronnie's solo on CYHMK on FF is fine. But, yeah, why does he stop the notes? Mind you, the fact that we make a big deal out of 1 solo, and not, say 5 solos, kind of says something about his playing. Just check out Ladies & Gentlemen. Love in Vain solo, YCAGWYW solo, Bitch solo, dead flowers etc etc.
Bit tragic really. |

Watch Ron on the "select a stone" on FF.....Angie on the club show I believe...maybe arena- His mix is mainly what you hear, as I assume it is on each of them. His playing is pitifully weak...and of course, he fucks up at one point. He even says "fuck" when he screws up. I don't think he's got much left in the tank. IMO the FF version of CYHMK really sucks, especially the solo. (And I'm a big RW fan)I did notice the clam Keith hit approximately 10 seconds into SFM (the first song) in MSG has been fixed from the original broadcast. It was a bad one too. |
