Sure, you can make a lot of claims about the writing and musicianship of the rock and Rolling Stones. But the fact remains that in the 60's, Jones, Jagger,and Richards were the best looking guys in the world.
Would they have been as successful if they all looked like Ernest Borgnine? No, Stones fans, they wouldn't.
How many great writers and musicians, even on this message board, have been passed up simply because they didn't have the sex appeal and charisma of a Mick Jagger or a Brian Jones?
I'm not complaining or criticizing. I'm simply saying that's how the world works and you know it.

Jokes apart, I do get your point, Mr. D. But I cannot help thinking that anyone in that position could greatly benefit from: 1) lots of Google search, 2) reading the forum archives & 3) thinking things over a little after reading answers instead of posting immediately another question.
I encourage wholehartedly anyone who enjoys the Stones and wants to learn more about them, but there nothing like personal research when you want to build knowledge. Time will tell! |

Really though, eye appeal does figure into one's popularity. And I'm sure it didn't hurt the Stones. Very unique looking people, and in the case of the three mentioned, babe magnets. |

Well they are certainly not a pretty boy band now!
They were never pitched as one. They were promoted as the rebellious, screw you band. The Beatles were the ultimate boy band. Smart suits, well groomed... it goes on.
Rebelliousness can be sexy and I think that’s what got so many girls hooked on the Stones.
