I agree, but only if it's the British release. The American Revolver peeled his contributions back to "She Said She Said" and "Tomorrow Never Knows" which are both brilliant, but if you add the songs that ended up on Yesterday & Today - "Drive My Car", "And Your Bird Can Sing", "Nowhere Man" and "Doctor Robert" (this is all from memory and it's been a long time so forgive me if I missed any), then, yeah, it's John at his best. It's also the band at their best, before they became four solo acts under one roof.
Rubber Soul (again, the British release) is a close second. IMO, the Beatles were ahead of the Stones at this point. The Stones didn't become the World's Greatest yadda yaddas until '68-'69. But I guess that sort of comment goes against the rules you've laid out above, so pretend I didn't say it! |

You know something, man. This has been BrainJanGled&Jarred as of late-- the angry riffers, the emoticons of the axe.
As far as "speaking" through five or six strings and gauging the FEELINGS of the player-- what he's feeling while he's riffin and getting it THROUGH to us-- shit, John was THEAnGryRiffer. Taxman!
Some top riffers playing five or six strings straight to the heart-- THERiff, obviously. Jimi. Knopfler. Bob. Petty. Neil. ERic when excited. Gilmore, the same.
I think this answers my own questions about swing and soul--the getting through past the technical. That's why, even tough MiSSRaWkInGesT digs him, i could never include Paige. Technically brilliant at older sessions-- but leaves my heart COLD.
You know what i'm saying?

...you know, it's RoTfLMaO around ere lately, but i really must reiterate that the furthest thing from my mind is censorship in any way, shape or form, really.
