Topic: Rod Stewart...can't write songs? Return to archive
21st December 2006 08:18 PM
Rags I'm trying to find an article that was quoted on here a while back. It was an interview that quoted Rod Stewart saying he can't write songs anymore or something to that effect. I think he also mentioned that the cover songs are easier for him these days. I tried Googling and searching the archives here. Does anyone have a link or text from that article? Thanks, it's much appreciated!

Mel Belli This the one you're looking for? From MSN.com:

"There's not many songwriters at my age still trying to release albums of their own music, and I'm not planning on it myself. Paul Simon, Elton John, the Rolling Stones have all penned their new records, and all the critics loved them, but they just didn't sell. When you get too old, people don't want to play your songs on the radio, so you have to go about it in a different way."

Rags Thanks for the quick reply. I found this one on Google too, and it sounds like a similar interview where he discussed not writing his own material anymore. Maybe there were other interviews around the same time. I remember one with more details related to this question, but maybe it was just a dream. lol! Let me know if anyone comes up with anything else.

Then he must have got too old soon after Every Picture Tells a Story because that "different way" that he's talking about is one that he's been on for at least a good 25 years.
