Street Fighting Man In case anyone would like to check out performances of The Clash, here's a writeup on a recently released video. I haven't seen it yet, but would imagine it's worth checking out. If anyone has viewed, please share your feeback/comments.

Westway To The World

The Clash were the band who made Punk real, they were the last great
British Rock'n'Roll band, they were the coolest, the most political, the
most eclectic and most thrilling of the Punk bands. Blasting away from
the parochial concerns of the London Punk scene of the late 1970’s, the
Clash explored and expanded musical boundaries like no act before, or
since. According to no less an authority than Rolling Stone magazine
they made the album of the 1980's London Calling. They mixed
reggae, soul, R&B, funk, hip hop and solid rock n roll long before
sampling had been invented. The Clash had the Look, the Walk and
the Talk. For seven years they set the agenda for future generations of
Rock bands.

In 1977 the NME called them "a garage band who should be returned to
the garage, the door closed and the engine left running". In 1981 the
Clash played in front of a screaming, adoring full house at Shea
Stadium as their fifth album (Combat Rock) stood in the Top 5 of the
American charts. A little over a year later they were no more. Having
spent seven years living, touring and recording without a break took it's
toll on the individuals involved and the band dissolved.

This film is the first time that all the members of the band have talked
about their lives in such detail. Using acres of previously unseen live
footage from the very beginning of the band to the very end, Westway
To The World is the only full, unexpurgated story of one of Rock
music's legendary acts that will make you wish you were there.

"...sets a new standard for rock documentaries." - Uncut

"...crisp, carefully put together and quite lacking in self-indulgence." -
Sunday Telegraph

"...pleasing, oddly romantic film." - Independent

"...excellent documentary." - NME

"...essential viewing." - Q

"...ultimate Clash documentary." - Scotsman

"...piercing glimpse into what made The Clash brilliant...." - The
Guardian

Available for the first time on DVD video, the release will include the
following:

- 'Westway To The World' (Director's Cut)
- Exclusive unseen interview footage from 'Westway To The World'
- 'Clash on Broadway' film
plus
- Photo Gallery
- Discography

Release Date: 5th November 2001

Clash From Here To Eternity - Out Now

From Here to Eternity is a brilliant reflection of the Clash’s past live
performances. When the Band finally called it a day in 1985 fans have
been waiting with eager anticipation for the band to reform and produce
another album. From Here to Eternity is a grand collection of Clash
classics and has been put together with the support of all members of
the band.

MRD8 I've had this program on video for the last couple of years and it is THE definitive documentary of The Clash...now with Joe's passing it'll be a great momento of one of THE best bands in rock history!

FPM C10 I've seen it and it's incredible. Although it does rewrite history a bit - the "Cut The Crap" Clash Mk II is not mentioned - it is a must for any Clash fan. It stands beside "The Filth and the Fury" as the definitive documents of Brit Punk.

I wish I owned it. I'd be watching it now.

stonedinaustralia as well as this execellent video i can also recommend a book entitled "the last gang in town" (sorry, the authors name escapes me - anybody help on that one?) - exhaustive and definitive - if you are a fan - and clearly there are many here - track it down - you will love it

sorespectable Definitely the definitive document on the Clash. It's sad watching Strummer lamenting at the end about the loss of Mick Jones as collaborator and him stating that "sometimes talent is worth waiting for" as the film ends. Those 2 were looking like they were gonna patch it up this year because Jones played with the Mescaleros in mid November--first time they had been on stage together in 19 yrs. SAD SAD SAD
