VoodooChileInWOnderl Butler fined after horses fail drug tests

Gerard Butler departed Jockey Club headquarters £2,400 lighter in the pocket after he was punished at a hearing in London.

The Blewbury trainer was hit with the penalty after three different horses from his yard failed tests for prohibited substances during the summer.

Bally Hall's sample was found to contain procaine after the colt had finished third at Goodwood on June 27.

Jagger's sample was found to contain ranitidine after the colt had won at Goodwood on July 31.

And the sample of Maystock, unplaced at Wolverhampton on August 7, was found to contain clenbuterol.

Butler was found to be in breach of Rule 53 in respect of the first-named horse as the source of the substance could not be established.

He admitted the other two cases, the horses concerned having both received courses of medical treatment where the sample remained in their systems despite Butler's staff having followed the correct procedures for withdrawal.

The panel fined him £800 for each breach of the rules, having taken into consideration the fact that it was Butler's second offence.

Also fined was fellow trainer John Dunlop, who was penalised £600 - it being his first offence - after Royal Approval tested positive for ranitidine after finishing unplaced at Nottingham in June.
