Someone mentioned that (I belive it was JB) Keith can not do a fast song any longeranyone in the camp that can confirm or deny this? I listen to parts of the 1981 tour when everything was very up-tempoed and they were screaming through songs, can this not be accomplished, or is it just the pace they are aiming for? |

they are playing rip this joint and when the whip comes down this tour, there are fast paced tunes, I think they are not screaming anymore and shooting for a more quality sound |

They played Rip This Joint in Miami at a breakneck pace...When they were finished Mick said, 'that was FAST.'

I was just listening to Roseland a few minutes ago, and nothing on that version of Neighbors would suggest Keith has any trouble with up-tempo numbers.
Rambler gets pretty fast in some spots, too. |

If I recall the original post correctly, it was in reference to "I'm Losing My Touch." Basically, the question/comment was could Keith still record a uptempo song (e.g., Happy, etc.)?
I'd say yes, it's just that he seems to fancy himself as a barroom cronner these days! |

If that is true than the Stones must quit immediately! |

It is relatively easy to play riffs fast, much harder to stay in the pocket in a nice grinding groove which is the heart of what the Stones do. The pace of some of the numbers of the '81 tour while suiting the post-punk era, really was not my favorite style for the Stones.

I've read interviews with Keith explaining his love for Jamaica--the country, people, and it's rhythms. His reggae infused solo albums express this connection.
One reference in particular, I recall Keith expounding an how reggae rhythms approximate the beating of a human heart. It would seem he has a deep appreciation of the meditative qualities of such music.
This may provide some insight in to why--particularly in the last two decades--he flows more to the slower tempo. Out of love for it. And certainly not an inability to reach the Stones earlier tempos.
Just a thought.
