She may very well have no standing to sue. It all depends on what the various agreements provide for. My guess is that no single document addresses this issue. Nanker may have more insight as this is the type of law he specializes in. Perhaps some common law cause of action as the name Lennon/McCartney is part of our culture by now....(unfortunately)

I'd have thought you thought the best thing they did was George recommending the Stones to Decca. |

Rik, at the risk of being crude, why did Mark David Chapman pick John? He was the wrong guy!!! |

Yoko's songs on Milk and Honey are excellent. |

I think the stones would have found a lable easily

True. It was still good of him. |

sandrew -- I don't know that she would have standing to sue. Generally there are 2 copyrights at issue with any song -- there is the musical composition copyright (the notes and lyrics written by Lennon/Mc) and the sound recording -- the actual tune as played by the Beatles. I believe that MJ only owns rights to the latter and I suspect Mc and Ono have the rights to the former (although I don't know that, but normally that would be the case).
Seems to me though that even if she has standing somehow as a co-owner of the music comp copyright -- I know of no requirement that the authorship be listed in a certain way.
Talk about petty -- this whole thing just stinks of egos gone wild... |

Sandrew...please identify your column so I can read it...thanks...by the way, doers that prick Robert Novack write for the times? |
|
sandrew |
Novak's flagship is the Chicago Sun-Times. The Wash Times may carry his syndicated column, but I don't think so. Come to think, the Washington Post does. He is a bit of a bastard, isn't he... |

Common law copyright is pre-empted by federal legislation.
Let me know if you don't know what "pre-empted" means. |

Yeah...Paul's. Pull gun...blow off foot. |

A "public domain" work just means that a given work is not protected -- either was never copyrighted or couldn't be copyrighted (ie government works) or was copyrighted but the copyright expired.
