Topic: Abkco Sues Makers Of " The Rolling Stones - Just For The Record" Return to archive
12-17-02 08:57 PM
no_cole_porter ABKCO Music and Records, which owns the rights to the Rolling Stones' early albums, has filed a lawsuit against a California video production company, Billboard Bulletin reports. The suit -- filed yesterday (Dec. 16) in Los Angeles Superior Court -- alleges that North Hollywood-based Passport International Productions is improperly marketing a five-disc DVD/VHS boxed set titled "The Rolling Stones--Just for the Record," due early next year.

The suit claims marketing and promotional materials falsely give the impression that the film includes material between 1962 and Aug. 31, 1971, all of which is owned by ABKCO. On the contrary, ABKCO says Passport is misleading fans by marketing the set as "the quintessential Rolling Stones" documentary when it only includes live performances of more recent material.

The suit seeks unspecified damages. At deadline, representatives from ABKCO and Passport were unavailable for comment.
