Topic: Open Tuning Question Return to archive

palacerevolution I am a lifelong Stonesfanatic but am stumped here: doesn't Keith play "Midnight Rambler" and "Gimme Shelter" in open tunings? There is a discussion about that on another board and now I'm wondering.

sandrew "Rambler" is played in standard, with a capo on the 7th fret. The recording of "Gimme Shelter" was, I think, in open-E, but he has always played it in standard in concert.

Mathijs GS was recorded in open D, but played in standard tuning live ever since.

This I'll never understand. I mean if you've got an open tuning then the chords...never mind. It's too far above my head
